Dd has VG which started thurs eve, am I likely to get it as I'm bf and am obv being covered frequently in her poop or vom...?! Sad Or is the wonderful human body working its magic to protect me whilst trying to get dd back to good health too?!

I have no idea of an answer to your question and of course, I really hope you don't come down with it.
If you are unlucky enough to get it, I just wanted to say that even though I got norovirus when Dd was 10/11 months old, I got fabulous advice from LLL and continued bfing throughout my illness. Dd did not get it and although it was really hard to hydrate myself and at one point, my milk decreased massively (but did come back with perseverance), I did continue bfing her for another 4 years.

I hope everyone is well again soon.

solo can you take anything whilst ill, like dioralite (I know that's not how you spell it but can't think how you do spell it) would the poop stoppers work or are they ineffective?! Sad think I've got it had a loose poo this morning!

Hi Yawner sorry for the late reply. Truth is, I don't know. If in doubt, ask at your docs surgery. Don't pay any attention if they say you mustn't bf whilst you have the bug, you can continue, but I'd ask several different sources about bfing whilst taking anything medicinal and not just stop feeding because one person/source of information says you should; IME, most of them don't know what they're talking about.

Dioralyte just replaces the salts and sugars that you lose when you have
diarrhoea, but I don't know what else is in it. You could take a spoonful of glucose powder in a glass of water and add a (big) pinch of salt...just as effective in my experience and much cheaper. Take several times morning, noon and night.

I got his when ds was 4weeks old. I started for 36hr apart from tiny amounts of lucosade and was really panicking when rubbish nurse said would have to start giving bottles and milk might dry up and was unsympathetic :(

Good news - milk was still fine, gave 1 bottle he vommited up (never again) & I was fine by day 4 totally ok.

So dont worry but do starve it out !

Oh dear. It's awful isn't it? I had a vomiting bug a fortnight ago. Couldn't even keep water down at one point. It did effect my milk supply in as much as I didn't get an obvious let down when feeding but there seemed to be milk there and DD seemed fine and just fed for longer. She did get a bit 'angry' that the milk wasn't perhaps coming as fast as she wanted but other than that we were fine.

I did lose my nicely regulated supply and had to wear breast pads again for a bit because I think my body over produced in getting back to normal.

DD was fine BTW so I guess she got a big dose of antibodies through her milk.

The active ingredient in Imodium is loperamide and according to the LacMed app 'is unlikely to affect the infant' so I'd take that to mean you can take it. LacMed is published by the American pharmaceutical regulator.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the response Smile I have since been fine...very bizarrely I had one nasty toilet trip and been three times since fine so I'm okay for the moment...I've been reading up on it and it's unlikely for adults to catch it, under 2s are more susceptible Sad she's still not well bless her it's awful!
