bra quest

Hi folks.
Could I call on the good people of MN for some bra quest help.

I have decided I REALLY need an underwired nursing bra, those soft cups just aren't cutting it anymore.
However, since making this decision I now can't find one in my size (36J)... anyone got any tips on where may stock underwired bras in this, what seems to be unusual, size?!

Thanks!

Marking my place as I've been looking for flattering and supportive nursing bras for about a year! Not sure you'll find undersized ones (they're not recommended as can cause blocked ducts) but hopefully somebody will know where you can find some supportive ones

*underWIRED - stupid autocorrect

Have you tried Bravissimo? That's only off the top of my head...

Mombojombo · 02/04/2012 10:43

Bravado Bliss bras come in big sizes and have a kind of flexible-not-hard wire. Not exactly an underwire, but they're very uplifting and supportive. I've got a couple and am a 32HH. They also don't have a seam right across (sore) nipples, and come in split cup sizes (so I take an H/I cup to allow for engorgement and...deflation...if that's the word).

What age is your baby? Has your supple settaled down?

I only ask as I was in the same situation, I've just given up on nursing bra's altogether. Gone back to a normal wired bra, which you can get away with if you have a balconet style and lossen the straps.

It also has to be well fitted so the bone rests on the ribe cage and not the breast tissue at all thus avoiding the block duck problem.

It's not underwired, but I am a 36H and have a Royce one from Bravissimo. Its extremely supportive compared to any others I have had.

Ooooh yes I think I have found a dream nursing bra which is super comfy, easy access and actually looks good - google elle macpherson intimates nursing bras - they are (really) not cheap - I have 2 which I bought when DD was born and love love love so have just treated myself to a 3rd and have just rotated these for the last year.

I have tried MANY wireless nursing bras and find they all leave me with a sore ring around my rib cage by the end of the day, like a horrible tourniquet. I discovered the Anita underwired bra on nursing bra shop and bought 4 of them they are so comfy. Just be aware the sizes are a tiny bit different as I think they are French, so I go for the next size up.

I can't make stuff clicky but you can try this:-

Haha thanks!

The Bravado ones are NOT true to size- they had a lot of flak about it when they first introduced their dual sizing.

Although these Elomi ones only go up to a H cup, they are a very generous fit in the cup so might be worth your while trying.

Rhubarbgarden · 02/04/2012 21:31

Slightly off topic, but can someone remind me at what point in your pregnancy you are supposed to buy nursing bras? I'm 32 weeks now and my existing bra with strap extender really isn't cutting it anymore.

RosesAndCustard · 02/04/2012 21:39

Hi, not read all replies so not sure if this is repeating, but I love the underwired Emma Jane nursing bras I've got. Definitely the most comfy - sleep in them all the time as they actually move with me rather than leave boobs to flap about on their own once empty of milk (sorry TMI). Don't know what size they go up to though, sorry.

RosesAndCustard · 02/04/2012 21:40

Rhubarb, no idea when you are supposed to but I bought mine at about your stage and have been fine. Helped that the Emma Jane ones I bought had a bit of give in them! Bought some more later on too...

marriednotdead · 02/04/2012 22:25

Ideally, 2-3 weeks before your due date, in the hope that your bump may have dropped a little to make room for the underband of the bra! Also, to be as close as you can size wise. If you're past 30 weeks and are desperate for a bra though, you may as well get a nursing one. Go as tight as you can cope with now, and use your extender short term as once you get your ribs back, you don't want to be wearing a bra that's too loose and riding up at the back.

Loopy it is interesting that hcp's don't advocate underwired nursing bras, I pondered this when removing a wireless one nearly in tears from the sore groove around my ribs and sometimes under my arms. These are bras that have been properly fitted and even felt comfortable in the morning but like they are killing me slowly by teatime. The first time I wore the Anita I wished I'd found it 2 years ago.

Rhubarbgarden · 03/04/2012 13:31

Thanks Married!

froggers1 · 03/04/2012 13:46

Haqd same prob. Got measured in Bravissimo at 36GG but found the bra so uncomfy with the seams and the underneath so tight i took it back. I have found a great website called Envie and if you phone they will advise and have some plain seamless underwired ones. Waiting for them to get here....hope they are OK cos I only have 2 weeks to go....getting a bit anxious that won't have anything in time!!!
