Nutramigen question

This is a bit odd but perhaps someone here will know!

We are currently living in the USA and are returning to the UK for a visit. DS (6 months) is on Nutramigen. Obviously we can bring with us but for 2 weeks that's quite a large supply (he is eating very little solids yet).

I know (because I had my first in the UK) that normally, Nutramigen and other hypoallergenic formulas are sold on prescription and kept behind the counter. However, I have been told that it's not actually illegal to sell it without a prescriptionit's just assumed that people will have one. (Bit like when I ran out of pen needles last yearlegal to sell as they are not syringes, though the pharmacist was very confused and had to go find out what to charge me!)

So - can anyone confirm that this is the case? And second (probably easier to answer) is any large branch of Boots et al likely to have it in stock? I know Aptamil Pepti is also suitable but would prefer to stick with what we're used to.

Many thanks!

Yes you can buy it - ask the chemist about stock, I think they sometimes need to order it

You can buy it without a prescription, it is very expensive though. Most pharmacies will have it in stock or be able to order it in very quickly.

It may be an idea to contact a pharmacy in advance just to make sure though.

Thank you both! It is expensive here as well (we do not get it on prescription - it costs $35 for 560g powder) so I was expecting to pay the same. I'll call the chemist before I go to see if they need to order it.

In my whole city not one chemist keeps any stock apart from the hospital pharmacy, but they can order in with 24 hrs notice. It costs between £23 and £27 per tin depending on where you go. Boots are helpful.
