Caravan holiday and bottle sterilising???

Going on holiday Sunday with our 6mo ds, need to keep bottle sterile but thought of taking the steriliser as well as travel cot, pram, etc etc is doing my head in!

I was thinking sterilising tablets and ice cream tub, or boiling them up as I need them? Any ideas? Still bf, so only need a couple of bottles a day when we are out and about!

Mircowave steriliser?

PestoPenguin · 30/03/2012 19:47

Cold water sterilier and fluid/tablets. The ice cream rub would work if you can measure the volume. Boiling for 5 mins is an option if you have time/facilities.

Or if they have a dishwasher you can use that

At 6 mo I stopped sterilising bottles. You don't really need to as long as they are thoroughly washed. If you want to continue, just boil them.

At six months I had stopped sterilising the bottles, but still did the teats.
On holiday I would take a smallish tuppaware sandwich box which held the right amount of water for 1/4 milton sterilising tablet.

It's tricky as my eldest is 14 and the rules change so much over the years, it's sometimes difficult to know what to do about anything! Caravan is my parents so lots of facilities to boil! Does seem silly as he's crawling all over the floor now, so probably germ ridden anyway. Think I'll try not to or boil if it looks like it needs it! Mum has plenty of saucepans!

There was another thread on the need to steralise, and the general consensus seemed to be that you will need to sterilise bottles and teats if they are being used for milk up to 12 months, but you do not need to sterilise bottles used for other liquids, or plates/spoons etc. I will try to find the link.

Will you have a microwave? these are brilliant.

Well I certainly don't sterilise myself! Grin and he mostly has me! I also have never sterilised spoons, bowls etc for any if my Dcs so not looking for extra work! Sad just worries me if milk has been sitting in a bottle all day! Teats can look extra grimy sometimes too. Medela lackeys look v convenient, but didn't really want to spend any money on anything much, as worse case can take the steamer! I wish thinking didn't change so often Sad

If teats are grimy a tip to get them clean before sterilising is to pour some salt into the teat and rub the outside of teat between fingers to exfoliate the gunk inside away.
