Best places to BF a fussy baby in Birmingham city centre?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 28/03/2012 20:23

Any midlanders around to help?

LO is exceptionally fussy when feeding so I have to avoid feeding in cafes etc as he usually goes into meltdown if I try while there is anything to distract him (you know, fascintating things like tables... and chairs... and floors Grin)

I have to spend most of Friday in Birmingham city centre so am going to have to feed him at some point. Can anyone recommend any good facilities? Or an exceptionally quiet, boring corner that I'll be able to use?

Thanks.

I heard rumours of a feeding room in the Bullring but never managed to find it myself. I used to try to go upstairs in the Cafe Rouge if morning, as usually quiet then and staff were great with kids generally IME. If I think of anywhere else I'll pop back!

Hi,

There are feeding rooms in the Bullring, although really they're just the baby changing rooms which have a fold down seat in them and you can lock the door. Don't know if there is anything more 'substantial' anywhere in there?

House of Fraser had a baby change room on the top floor with 2 mats for general use and then two feeding cubicles, each with a change mat, chair etc.

For some reason I am thinking that Debenhams might have a separate room for feeding (but I might be confusing that with the Debenhams where I live Confused)

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head but I'll keep pondering.....

Also, of you have an iPhone there is an NCT babychange app which will tell you where baby change rooms are, although they aren't necessarily kitted out for feeding iyswim?

I would go to the cafe in House of Fraser. It's always quiet and, depending on the age of the baby, there's a children's area where he can play.

There are feeding rooms in Mothercare too. The feeding room in Debenhams is fowl! There is an extra cafe room on the top floor that's quiet though. I was once feeding in there when some managers came in and proceeded to conduct interviews for new staff. :o

Ah, I should have caveated my info with it having been at least 3 years since I was feeding in Birmingham (I was only ever there infrequently anyway) Smile, so facilities may not be as nice now as they once were!! (Or I still might be thinking of our Debenhams here Blush).

Good luck though tomorrow OP Smile

The bullring loos near mamas and papas are quieter - near the top. Don't know if m&p do feeding rooms?? Otherwise second debs cafe suggestion.

Pastabee · 29/03/2012 07:06

Never seen an M&P with a feeding room I'm afraid.

Will you have your car? I feed DD in back of car sometimes because she is so easily distracted. Turns her head round to have a nose with my nipple still in her mouth.

I've started giving the lunchtime feed as a bottle of expressed milk to satisfy her need to stop and nose / eavesdrop (her not me).

Biscuitsandtea · 29/03/2012 08:14

Pastabee I think the other poster meant the bullring baby change rooms that are just located near M&P (although the M&P near us does have feeding room, but it's an out of town one)

If there's a Starbucks nearby I've always found them to be very welcoming and helpful with breastfeeding mothers.

Hi,
Mothercare, just down from the bull ring, past prim ark, and up the street on the right opposite urban outfitters... has a feeding room upstairs. It is ok,I fed my 3 day old there on Monday. I would not recommend Starbucks, it is busy and also the tables are too close together and not comfy.

Sounds a bit odd.. but i would also think about going to the central library to feed, quiet and has some comfy seats in corners.

i know how hard it is once they start getting interested in the surroundings... Im enjoying watching tv with dd2 while it lasts!

I did feed once in the gallery off the big square (is it Victoria Square? One with the statue DH calls the floozy in the jacuzzi!), very quiet corners but not many places to sit.

Wow thanks. Lots of good ideas here & I'd completely forgotten about the nct app. I'll be going by train (a whole other worry!) so no car to feed in and unfortunately no, no matter how comfy the Starbucks chairs may be, feeding in a cafe is totally impossible (I miss my teeny latch-on-anywhere newborn!)
