Teeth - ouch!

Just quickly as we're on holiday at the moment!

DS has had 3 top teeth and one new bottom one come through since we arrived on Thursday (no wonder he was grizzly!). He's also had a stinking cold so is off solids so he's been feeding loads, which is fine but his new teeth are razor sharp and are rubbing on my nipple, particularly the right one. I've tried different positions but it mainly hurts at night when I feed lying down.

Do I just need to wait for my nips to toughen up or is there anything else I can try?

Can't link as I'm at work but if you google Kellymom teeth grazing, you should get some information on there. The only other things you can do is make sure he's had teething gel like Dentinox and some ibruprofen and if it is grazing take him off and relatch him.

Saw someone using nipple shields as her DD has top and bottom teeth, it stops them cutting in. My DS has bottom ones an I get the odd painful nip as he slides of nipple at 4am - wakes me up though. Dread the top teeth as don't want to stop feeding so have some shields ready and waiting.

Bit better today thanks - I'm trying to concentrate on him opening his mouth really wide and it seems to be helping!

Glad it's improving, if you are in the UK try the National Breastfeeding Helpline on 0300 100 0212, they might be able to give you a few more tips.

I had exactly the same problem but after a few days DS got used to feeding with teeth and it became pain free again, so hang in there!
