Soft boob, hard boob!

Hello, hoping you experienced breastfeeders can help me understand what's going on with my boobs!
I've been ebf 3 week old and over the last 3 or so days have noticed that one boob is staying soft all the time whereas the other goes hard between feeds and softens during the feed.
He feeds happily from both and comes off either with milk dribbling out his mouth. I have hand expressed from both and they appear to have a similar amount of milk coming from them. I am trying to increase the amount I feed from the soft boob (is this the right thing to do?) by starting each feed on that side but obviously want to ensure he also feeds well from the hard side to give me some relief.
Any ideas why this is happening, what it means and what (if anything)?
Many thanks in advance! Grin

Your boob that is going hard is still producing to much milk (this happens in the early weeks as milk production is hormonal drive to start with), breast only stop producing milk when they go hard. When your supply has settaled down then your boob's will most likley stay softer most of the time and you'll be producing the right amount of milk for your baby with no oversupply.

Expressing is no indicator of supply as baby is far more efficent at removing milk then any form of expressing.

It's also quit normal for mum's to have differences inbetween the two breasts.

Thanks for replying MigGril so the soft one is the 'right' one? Okay, so just need to wait for the hard one to settle down?
I was only mentioning expressing in case people wondered if one breast had more milk than the other, I realise it's not a precise measure of supply.
Thanks for the info, very reassuring. Smile

I wouldn't say right, just already better ajusted to meeting your lo's demands. The other one will settal with time, although how long that will take depends on the individual.

Sounds like your doing a great job.

Brilliant thanks, it's not bothering me at all but wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing for my supply. Smile
