Would you freeze this EBM? And a random breastfeeding q.

Pumped on Thursday evening. Kept in the back of the fridge until Saturday morning. Then put in a Tomme Tippee coolbag thing and taken out today until 6pm when it went back in the fridge.. It smells fine, very separated though. Also, randomly, how much thick should the cream be on top of EBM? I'm sure it varies by time of day, age of baby etc. I had about a cm thick layer, and as my baby has had some weight gain issues I wondered if that was wildly abnormal.

No I would bin it, sorry. It really depends on how cold your fridge is how long you are supposed to store breastmilk for. But the fact that you had it out of the fridge all day is the deciding factor for me.

I was always guided by the bfn leaflet on storage...http://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/pdfs/BFNExpressing&Storing.pdf it is.

I have no idea about the thickness of the "cream" on top, sorry!

That was supposed to read here, but never mind!

The cream on top will just be the fat separating - a cm sounds about normal to me, probably slightly more than normal if it's one of the short fat bottles.

See here for visual representation of another woman's milk.

Your baby's weight gain will be unrelated to the fat content of your milk.

As for whether or not it's safe to drink - smell and/or taste it.

I'd try giving it and if taken, would pump the missed feed and freeze that instead, so you have more freshly frozen milk. If baby refuses, you know to chuck it! Those TT thermal pods are good at keeping it cool but I wouldn't bother freezing it.

Unsure about cream on top as mine seems to vary depending on pumping circumstances ( time of day, how long since last feed or expressing etc) It could be that your milk is currently feeding the growth spurt, so more filling than usual?

Protein is what builds muscle/weight anyway, and that tends to be pretty consistent - fats are more important for brain development and the amount of fat varies so much over a day, even during a feed, that an occasional bottle whether it contains more or less fat than that feed "would have" is not going to make a tiny bit of difference :)
