I really hope this doesn't sound too bad.

I haven't had ANY alcohol since november 2010 because of being pregnant/bf'ing. It's my best friends birthday tomorrow and I would love to be able tp go to the pub and have a drink or two. But DD wouldn't take bottle of expressed bm when I tried about 2 months ago. Is there any other way someone else could feed her milk? She also feeds every 2 hours day and night so I couldnt even just feed her before I left. If ypu know what I mean? Anyone got any ideas? I've never been able to leave her with anyone because of this. Tia

How old is she? 2 months tends to be a long time in a baby's life.
You could try cup feeding, but there's no guarantee that would be any easier than a bottle

Sometimes they will take it from a small egg cup or something similar. But the day before the party isn't really the time to start trying is it?

Agree with Stealth things can change alot in 2 months. Have a read of this on Kellymom. And no, it doesn't sound bad at all Smile.

May sound a little extreme, but could anyone bring her to you where you are for a feed midway through the evening (provided you're not planning to get entirely blotto that is!)

Thanks for the link jilted

Mombo, that's actually not a bad idea. I'm probably being really thick but can I still bf her if I've had 1 or 2 units? I've tried looking it up but I'm quite confused. Do I have to wait a while after I've had a drink. I'm only intending to go out for about two hours x

Yes you can - the real concerns with alcohol and breastfeeding are a) if you are drunk and in sole charge of a baby which is not good and b) drinking alcohol every day has risks to babies health (lower weight gain and gross motor skill development).

If you are planning on a few drinks (that is staying on the healthy side of comatose!) and you will have someone with you overnight with baby (no bed sharing though and pref. night feeds done together as opposed to you feeding baby alone as you may be more likely to fall asleep feeding baby) then it's fine as an occasional thing.

Also blood alcohol and milk alcohol are the same. If you have a blood alcohol of around 0.5% (usually death occurs at this point or coma if lucky/hardened drinker) you will have a milk alcohol level of 0.5% (that is if you were some how able to bf baby in this state Shock). 0.5% is no-alcohol beer level. Baby probably wouldn't like the taste and let down may well be inhibited (death does that to a let down reflex funnily enough!)......

Thanks so much for that truthsweet. My parents would be looking after her and just bringing her into my room that night for feeds so thats not a problem. And this definitely doesnt happen on a regular basis (the next time I plan to have a drink wil be at a wedding in august)
So just to be absolutely clear, I can have 2 units then come home and feed her straight away? Sorry I'm just paranoid I'm going to damage her!

This has some great info esp. the download at the bottom of the page. Very scientific and also reassuring!
