formula at night

I have a 6m old bf and BLW baby. He is awful at night with sleeping and I have been advised by friends whose babies sleep pretty well to give a bottle of formula at night. I still plan to bf through night and day but really want him to start sleeping for longer than 2 hours at a time. I hope by cutting out that feed I will have more milk for night feeds (and hopefully less of them) Does this work and which formula is best and how much in oz?

Quite a few ladies at my BF group have tried this and not one has said it has worked for them. A couple did say it made their baby sleep longer the first night then went back to normal.

Because of the way milk supply works, I'm not sure replacing a feed with formula will mean you have more milk stored up for the next feed/night feeds either, as your body will just reduce the amount it makes to keep up with the reduced demand.

If you want to try it I don't think it will matter which brand of formula you use, they are all very similar and give as much as your baby will take, but maybe not so much the first couple of times in case of tummy ache.

I started co sleeping again to cope with night wakings (DD is 9 months) and it has made a huge difference to the amount and quality of sleep I get. Might that be an option for you?
