What cup would you recommend for 5 month old baby who won't take bottle.

Have got an own brand at the mo she doesn't seem very impressed. Have been told doidy cups are good?

There are to many to choose from!

my friend that went from breastfeeding straight to cup found a bogstandard white ikea plastic beaker with yellow spout the best one.

I'm also struggling with a 5 month-old bottle-phobic baby. I've just bought a playtex bottle to try as suggested by Mfer (see other threads). As for cups, don't fork out the £5 for a doidy cup. All plastic cups are much of a much-ness. Most of the milk will end up soaked into the muslim you wrap round the baby's neck. Good luck!

starlover · 04/02/2006 21:24

how do you wrap a muslim round a baby's neck?

Gillian76 · 04/02/2006 21:24

Some bottles will take a "spout" attachment. Avent do a white one and you used to be able to get one from Baby Heinz which was clear.

If she won't suck, at least you can "pour" it into her mouth

hercules · 04/02/2006 21:24

I used a doidy cup and though they were great.

hercules · 04/02/2006 21:25

agree about the playtex system. I used that at this age.

sweetkitty · 04/02/2006 21:34

DD used a Tommee Tippee basic cup for 4 months +
No valve just a spout went everywhere first few times but then she got the hang of it.

Blondeinlondon · 04/02/2006 22:34

starlover - you tie it like they are a cowboy

ruthydd · 05/02/2006 10:27

Yes - like a cowboy. A normal bib would probably work the same but wouldn't be close enough to the neck. Sounds like I'm trying to strangle him doesn't it? Have to say its tempting the more of my precious expressed breast milk he spits out.

A helpful HV recommended using the lid to an Avent bottle to start with. Cos they are flat bottomed you can sit them down and they are wide at the top so you can see whats going on.

I got the Tommee Tippee cheap first cups with the foling spoat and handles too as you can use these with lids off and on - my son still uses them at 2yrs without a lid - they have a nice wide bottom too.

starlover · 05/02/2006 22:00

are you sure? a MUSLIM?

Jackmummy · 06/02/2006 17:07

LOL... keep imagining a muslim drapped around baby!

ruthydd · 06/02/2006 17:36

opps - deary me! A cowboy muslim. I am the first to ever make this typo ?

chipmonkey · 06/02/2006 17:49

I got the Playtex bottles as recommended by hercules and they were the only bottle ds3 would take after a brief flirtation with the MAM ultivent teat which he took under sufferance!
I found Christians more absorbent than Muslims, when wrapped around a baby's neck, btw!

starlover · 06/02/2006 21:33

no, not the first! someone once posted about buying some muslim clothes instread of muslin cloths! lol now THAT was funny

ruthydd · 07/02/2006 19:44

I also confuse "perineum" and "perennial" since childbirth, now that is really embarrassing when you're buying plants!

Em32 · 07/02/2006 20:54

Chocohead still trying then?! I'm not having any luck either. dd loves her doidy cup though - she gets really excited when I come towards her with it. I'm hoping that will be the answer eventually but I think it will be months rather than weeks before she's mastered it.
Starlover lol !

Em32 · 07/02/2006 20:57

Although, looking at another thread maybe I should offer milk as well as water in it. Thinking about it ds would never take milk from cups, only from bottles......

snowleopard · 07/02/2006 21:00

DS will now use a doidy cup and an avent magic cup with spout, after much effort. But I tell you what works best - a smoothie bottle, one of those small plastic ones that a smoothie comes in at starbucks or whatever. Small neck means he doesn't spill much and because it's small he's also starting to be able to hold it (in both hands). However at first never mind the muslims, I had to wrap him in a big towel!

Miaou · 07/02/2006 21:06

I bf my ds and give him water to drink out of an open cup (I use a tommy tippee cup with two handles but leave the lid off). A month on and he is very proficient at drinking out of it - if I was to express milk to give him I would consider giving him it in the cup (but am crap at expressing so I guess I will be feeding him for a while yet!)

Gem13 · 07/02/2006 21:10

Both of mine were fine wth the little Boots own brand ones. Couldn't work out the Doidy ones.
