A boob monster no more!!

My DD loved boob more than anything and literally (after a shaky start with her being prem and tube fed) spent every possible minute attached to my boob. Me and DH joked that she would want boob when she was at Uni Grin

She continued to feed very frequently until about 7 months when she decided that eating food was also very nice. At 1 she was only really having 2/3 feeds a day and these were usually initiated by me.

This morning when I would normally BF her, she took me to the fridge and said "that milk" so she clearly knew what she wanted and was very happy to sit and have a cuddle with her cup of milk.

I am absolutely thrilled that breastfeeding seems to have come to a natural conclusion and that is has being DD's choice, most of all I am so incredibly proud of myself for managing to breastfeed after what was a difficult start.

Until the next time. . . . .

Love it! my dd is 8mo and I introduced a bedtime bottle at 5 months just so I had pece of mind that she had a good feed. Now I've replace her afternoon feed with a bottle and I'm starting to feel a little sad that soon we will no longer be feeding via she will be dropping her mid morning feed soon. half of me wanted to stop feeding now in fear that she would still be feeding when shes 2/3. not that it's wrong but I just dont want that. Reading this has for me reconsidering!

well done u should be really proud :)

Thank you ladies, I thought I would feel quite sad but actually I dont at all despite still enjoying the breastfeeding.

It is wonderfull to know that I have given my little lady the best possible start to life and I can honestly say that without Mumsnet it would not have being possible as I didnt know anyone in RL who breastfed and although I had read books etc they didnt really cover the neagtive aspects such as cluster feeding and things.

When DD was born I was told by the midwives in the hospital that it would be "extremely difficult" to establish BF as she was being completely tube fed when we were discharged with EBM but with sheer determination from both of us we managed to EBF within 3 days and never looked back - It really has being a wonderfull experience!!

What a beautiful story, well done to you and your daughter. My DD is only 11 weeks and I'm loving breastfeeding so much, I hope that when our breastfeeding time comes to an end it happens like this and it's her choice x Happy Mother's Day for tomorrow x

How old is she? DD is nearly 20 months and showing no sign of losing interest. Not that I really mind but I would like to wind it down at some point.

MadameJ · 17/03/2012 20:59

DD is 16 months (which I believe is very early to self wean) but she is quite independant and knows exactly what she wants and what she doesn't Hmm

Perhaps there's light at the end of the tunnel then! My DD also knows exactly what she wants - unfortunately that seems to be breast milk, chocolate buttons and baby owls! Grin
