does anyone have a breastfed baby with really infrequent bowel movements?

Hi, my daughter is 5 months old and EBF. Since the new year her bowel movements have got less and less regular to the point that she is going every 10-15 days only. She is not in any discomfort, eating fine and passing lots of wind. The doctors couldn't feel any blockages but have prescribed Movicol (laxative) to try and get things moving. I'm reluctant to use this given its normally prescribed to toddlers and older children and she shows no distress and when she does have a bowel movement it is not hard or pellet like. Just wondered if anyone else has a baby with such infrequent bowel movements as mine?

My nephew went a whole month without pooing at that age - apparently he fed loads and just used it so efficiently there was hardly any waste! Mind you, he practically produces diamonds these days, so maybe it was a warning of the years of prune juice ahead...

poo arrived this morning (day 13)...happy mother's day gift I reckon! although it wasn't quite the poonami I was hoping for...maybe the 'after shock' is still to come!!!

Don't want to worry you but my ds used to go long times between his poos and it turned out to be because he had a mega huge tongue tie and was barely getting any bm at all.

how can you tell if they do? did your ds not put weight on?

Our DD did this and was told there was not reason to offer anything else, just bm is fine until 6 months. Her longest was 12 days and it was pretty spectacular when she did go. Her weight gain was fine.

As Definite suggests though, its important to monitor the other signs that your baby is getting enough milk.

Haven't read the whole thread, so sorry if I'm repeating.

I think by 5 months you'd know if there was a problem with her feeding - she'd be miserable and not gaining weight.

Long gaps between poos is normal in an EBF baby and if she's in no discomfort and the poo is soft when it comes then she's not constipated. I wouldn't give laxatives or orange juice or cut out dairy if everything is fine.
