Colic and feeding all evening

Hi
My son aged 8weeks has colic i assume as is settled all day and feeds well but come 8pm he will not setle after a feed either crying in pain or very restless so will not settle down to sleep. The only thing to settle him is to bf, most nights i do this on and off till about 11 at which point he will fall asleep and i can put him in his bed. Last night though it was 1am till he settled and then woke again to feed at 4am. I have 3 other children so cant leave him to cry for long in the night and this is why i tend to just feed.
He feeds 3 hourly in the day.
Does this sound like colic? And has anyone experienced anything like this, is feeding him the right thing or will it create problems further on.
Thanks

Colic does tend to get worse throughout day. Have you tried infacol? This helps them bring wind up. My first daughter had colic and its horrible to see them in pain. I used Dr Brown bottles but if you're bf this obviously isn't an option for you. If its any consolation they do grow out of it around 3 months. Infacol takes few days to work so give it a go, if not you c

Could also try dentinox this worked better for my daughter good luck

Sounds exactly like my DS....angel all day and then possessed by evil spirits come 9pm...until, some nights, 4 am. He would feed & feed & feed and then vomit. And then be hungry again.....all extrememly exhausting.
Anyway, he was in hospital at 4 weeks (for something totally unrelated) and I was lucky enough to have a big long chat with a very experienced consultant paediatrician. He said you can try Infacol, gripe water, anything you like but nothing really works. If it did the manufacturers would be living on a private island somewhere..... What works is waiting it out as they will just pass through it.
Not v helpful at the time, when I wanted some magic powder to help him sleep but I see now that he as talking sense.
I assume his weight gain and everything else good?

No it doesn't sound like colic ... it sounds like cluster feeding !

Take a look at this, apple - that help at all?

Iggly · 14/03/2012 14:44

Normal - cluster feeding and probably massively overtired too. I've just come out of this with my 3 month old. Some nights she's better if I make sure she has a massive nap, say 3-5pm then put down for sleep at 6. Anymore than an hour awake and that's it, curtains for the evening.

It's better if you carry him in a sling all day if you can as less likely to get tired and will be calmer come evening.

I have 4 dc who all fed non stop from 6.30 - 9pm every night at about that age. They were v unsettled. Tried infacol etc but IMO nothing made much difference and they just grew out of it. But it is exhausting when you are bf. never panic- nothing lasts for ever :-)

Thanks everyone, had first thought cluster feeding but wasn't sure it went on this long. Dc1 was bf but settled well in evening and dc2&3 are twins so bottlefed with bad reflux/colic but different to this.
Thanks theboobmeister i will have a read now, looks helpful.
Just hope his evenings settle soon

Hi there!

I can sympathise. Sounds like colic to me. My second has colic and suffers with it about 75% of the 24 hour day. I found dummies help to sooth her especially at night if she wakes too soon for a feed. Infacol dosn't really help and haven't found anything else.
