Advice on changing teat size

Hello! Just wondered if anyone had advice for getting their LOs used to a bigger teat size. My daughter is 4mo and still has approx 7 feeds a day roughly 3 hourly taking approx 120-150ml on each feed (I know this sounds like a lot but she's 91st height percentile and has actually dropped in weight percentile).

I would love to get her onto less frequent, larger feeds and I think she'd prob take it as she often dozes off on the bottle. I've tried size 2s (Tommee Tippee) and she can often cope with them during the day, though not always, but splutters on them at night.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Should I adopt different teat sizes for day and night or would this be confusing?

Hints and tips gratefully received!

Kat I know you would like her to have larger, less frequent feeds but it sounds like at the moment you are taking your cues from her and she sounds happy. You may want to wait a couple of weeks and then try the teat again.

i would leave as is at the moment, switching teat size for day and night will just be a pita for you.

changing teat size will just make the milk come out faster, not increase the feed

would it be worth giving her an extra oz, to see if she wants it? my dd would only take 5oz every 2 hrs until she was weaned

ah just seen that she falls asleep during a feed, have you tried keeping her awake by stroking her cheek?

There are some tips on Mother-2-Mother for feeding babies who fall asleep:

Burp and change diaper. Burping should be done with the baby sitting supported upright on mom's knee or lap rather than over the shoulder because it's also less sleep-inducing.

massage the baby's head (crown) in a circular motion while feeding. Also using a wet cold washcloth and wiping back against the grain of the hair growth can help Try this for several days and see if there's improvement, and please update us as you can.

Place baby on your lap with legs near your tummy and head on your knees. Gently supporting baby, raise in sitting position, like doing a "sit- up". Do this two or three times, then do "side to side" a couple times.

You may want to reduce any outside or excessive stimulation. (bright lights & noise) Sometimes babies just need to tune out all the noise/light and they do this by falling asleep.

You may also try taking the bottle out of her mouth and switching positions as soon as her sucking slows and see if that brightens her up a bit too cheap.

Feeding every 3 hours at 4 months is perfectly normal though, however you feed your baby. I know that I would have a problem going for longer without a drink or food and I'm well over 4 months Smile
