Hi, I have a 7 week old dd who has been exclusively bf. we have been trying to get her to take a bottle, so that she can have 1 in the evenings so I can get a break now and then. Have tried her w expressed milk, formula, dh feeding, me feeding but she will not drink from a bottle. She sits with it in her mouth for a couple of minutes, then spits it out and screams blue murder. Also, somehow despite not drinking any of it, she gets really windy with it. I thought we'd cracked it at the weekend when she took 1 1/2 oz but she refused to take any again this morning when I thought a different time of day might help. Does anyone have any suggestions pls? My ds took a bottle straightaway and I thought all babies would at this age!

I had this problem with dd who is now 8mo, I used to express an ounce or two and got my mum or do to try it with her a few times a day. Let her have a play with it in her mouth, as long as u keep trying she will take it eventually. I read that a bf baby can smell a mums milk for upto 20feet away and that being out of the room helps. I did find this worked a bit so just used to toddle off upstairs or out the back. when I was pottering upstairs and do was playing with dd downstairs it was getting close to when she would usually feed so I td him to warm a bottle and stayed very quiet upstairs. She took it.

I have been having this ongoing problem with my dd who is nearly 4 months. Last week she finally took a bottle of formula and I think what did it is how she was given it....with me no where in sight! She was taking it fine and then when I walked in the room she saw me, stopped feeding, looked at my dh who was giving her the bottle and started screaming! I quickly left and she stopped crying and carried on feeding!

You could also try using different teats etc.

Have a read of this thread

Perseverance I'm afraid, if she's taken it once she will take it again. You giving it to her probably isn't the best, get someone else to

Good luck :)

Thanks loads for the advice, ladies! I think perhaps my dream of a birthday night out at the bingo(??!!) may have been a little hopeful. Oh well, hopefully I'll get a night off before she's 6 months old :D
