Does you toddler talk about feeding?

I'm finding it all very entertaining.

We sign with dd3 so when she is feeding she often signs at the same time. She signs milk at anyone walking past too.

She's started 'choosing' which boob she wants and being very clear about it and when she needs to swap. She also points down my top and says 'mmmm'

Yes.

My daughter overheard me moaning about my sore tits to dh and her first sentence at 14 months was in car park lift, in a crowd, shouting "I want TIT NOW!"

Managed to steer her on to less offensive "boob" after that.

Before she spoke sentences she used to ask for "side", because I used to speak about swapping sides to dh.

When she stopped feeding, a month after the birth of her sister, she just said "boob is for Ds now...look how shez's gnashing it up" (cue hysterics from her)

Yes, eldest is 3.5yo and is an enthusiastic feeder. She learnt to say "I want booby" at quite a young age, recently she has started translating for her younger sister (just 12 months) and says "mummy, DD2 wants some booby. GIVE HER SOME BOOBY!" and always wants me to feed them both at the same time so that they can piss about hold hands and giggle.

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 10/03/2012 20:36

Dd will often tell Ne if ds wants mummy milk

Kveta · 10/03/2012 20:41

yes, DS (2.5) called it 'bilk' for a while and would ask for bilk a lot in public. now it's just milk. he gets into our bed in the morning and goes 'milk pleeeeease mummy?' then 'other side now?'. not so much in public anymore, thank god.

and today he had a feed and said 'milk sticky now' which I guess is due to it being colostrum at the moment (28 weeks pg on tues).

however, today we were in town, and in a shop which had toys on display, and he picked up a little toy, held it to the chest of a larger toy, and bellowed 'now mummy milk!' so everyone could hear. luckily the woman at the counter is a friend of ours who also did extended bfing, so there were not too many blushes!!

ShowMethePony · 10/03/2012 20:43

Oh yes ds does the choosing thing, he always knows straight away which side he wants, has relieved me of having to keep track. And signs milk at me just in case I didn't know what was going on. And sometimes breaks off breathlessly to say Mama! and then resume.

AngelDog · 10/03/2012 20:43

Yes, sometimes. He'll say 'DS milk. Mummy milk.' He's 2.2 y.o.

He enjoys talking about baby animals having milk & has a little phrase: 'Daddy drinks cow's milk, Mummy drinks oat milk, DS drinks Mummy milk'.

Today I asked him which was tastier, milk or raisins (his favourite food). He said milk. Grin

HJwantstosleep · 10/03/2012 20:45

Dd3 has taken to looking up dh top & laughing at 'hairy no milk '

Dd1 was never this enthusiastic!

Actually no she didn't say much she'd just lift my top or climb down my neckline.

The only comments I'd get were "Oh your wearing a dress" "meaning sod it no sneaky feeds till we get home".
"Or stupid underwired bras!", but DD2 did feed for rather a long time.

Breast milk was mummy milk if she did say anything, but she is instinctively discrete and permanently embarrassed by her loud eccentric DM and DD1.

jaggythistle · 10/03/2012 21:03

DS used to just call it 'molk' which eventually became milk or mummy milk. he didn't talk about it much apart from the wee voice over the monitor shouting for molk! also asked for other side when he figured that one out. boobs were referred to as 'mummy's milks'.

he's now 2.6 and stopped feeding at approx 2, round about when i got pg.

if he does spot a boob he points and says 'that's milk mummy!' and occasionally says he'll have a drink. he forgot how to latch ages ago though.

dc2 due next month and wondering what he'll make of it!

jodidi · 10/03/2012 21:43

Dd2 is 2 today and is very enthusiastic about booby. She gives me complete directions like 'mummy lie down, I want booby now, this side, bra off now, quickly mummy, I want booby' then she sits up looks at me and says 'other side now'.
She also says things like 'boobys away now' as soon as she's finished. She says that to a lot of women actually, it always sounds like she expects people to be walking round with their boobs out Blush. She feeds her dolls too, which is lovely, but trying to make her childminder bf the dolls too (complete with boobs out) caused a few problems Blush
Apparently it's better than chocolate though :)

Beamur · 10/03/2012 21:52

My DD was quite discrete by the sounds of it, when she wanted to feed, she would say 'feed' and look expectant/hopeful. She was always very cuddly and affectionate when feeding and was quite sad when we stopped (she was 2.5) - interestingly she remembered it well for a while, but when she was about 3.5 she seemed to forget, but now knows she was bf, but obviously doesn't actually remember doing it now. As a baby she was always quite interested in other womens breasts and would stare at anyone wearing a low cut top!

BertieBotts · 10/03/2012 21:52

Yes, DS is quite appreciative, which is nice I suppose Confused

He doesn't ever tend to mention it in public except one time when it was very late on a train and he shouted "Boobies!" which one man in the carriage found hilarious Blush Luckily, so hilarious that he missed my frantic whispering of "No no no please wait until we get onto the next train, DO NOT try to get milk here, you have to wait, SSSSSH!!" and DS's subsequent stage-whisper of "I don't want to have milk, Mummy, I just want to lick them."

Quite WHY he thought this would be more acceptable to me I have absolutely no idea. I was extremely glad that the man didn't hear Blush

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 11/03/2012 06:09

DD (2.2) has told a few people how 'I fink Mummy's boobs are weally yummy'. Including DH's boss.

She has also taken it upon herself to instruct me how and when to feed her baby brother.

IHeartOldYork · 11/03/2012 07:54

My DS is only 6 months but this is such a nice thread. My original BF target was 3 months but I now want to carry on as long as DS wants to. Stories like the ones above are lovely and inspire me to carry on! My DS can't talk, obviously, but he does pop off to smile at me sometimes ( usually in public - Grrr!)

harverina · 11/03/2012 17:22

My dd is 2 next month and is very vocal about breastfeeding! She feeds once or twice per day and never for very long, except from if she is unwell, then she feeds quite a lot. When she wants fed she says very clearly "I want boo boo" and will say it over and over until she gets it! She pretends to certain people that she wants them to feed her...for example she will ask her auntie for boo boo, shove her hand down her top and giggle hysterically knowing fine well that its only mummy who can feed her.

It's lovely feeding a toddler. She recently said "I love boo boo" and sometimes says mmmm when she is feeding :)

Kveta · 11/03/2012 18:47

Bertie that's brilliant :o did you let him have a lick? :o

Oh god no! I can't imagine anything worse Confused Actually he has stopped and just licked me occasionally when feeding at bedtime and I hate it, it really feels odd and makes my skin crawl.

grobagsforever · 12/03/2012 09:32

DD is 19 months and yanks my top whilst saying milk. That's it really.

Napdamnyou · 12/03/2012 18:30

DS is 15 months and says 'ma! ma!' all the time, whilst clutching my top and trying to get his hand inside.

I say 'you can have ma when we get home' if we are out.
