How long for milk to come in after planned c section?

My ds2 was born in Tuesday afternoon and my milk still hasn't come in. After ds1 (natural birth) I can't remember how long it took to be honest...... I'm getting a bit frustrated now as I've a hungry baby on my hands. Could anyone share how long it took their milk to come in after planned c section?

Congratulations!

My milk came in on day 1 with first planned section. I was still feeding several years later when I had second planned section, so milk was there already, but obviously was colostrum as well (never clear really how that worked)

There's next to no (at least as far as I am aware) evidence that mode of delivery affects milk production (some say section means its harder, others say being actually in hospital can help get support... You'll find many experiences) since it is the removal of the placenta that kick starts the hormonal process.

All I can say with both is that I fed (first less so as was early and jaundiced so was getting light therapy) very frequently. Second one I basically did biological nurturing. And tandeming. My supply was awesome.

When you say there's no milk, what do you mean? No colostrum? Dry nappies? Has anyone there helped you, or said anything ?

Thank you. Yes there's colostrum and I've expressed with hospital grade pump too. It's not satisfying my ds so he's is solidly cluster feeding....... Sad

DC3 was born by elcs and the milk started to come in at the end of day 5 and was properly in by day 6. This was in contrast to DC1 and 2 (natural births) when the milk came in on day 3. Like you I found I needed to feed very frequently, but my supply was very good (possibly a bit too good!) when it did come in. I'm still feeding DC3 after nearly a year so the slightly slower start clearly didn't do any harm. Hang in there, hopefully your milk will be in very soon, and congratulations :)

Thank you that's great to hear..... I've actually just expressed and I got 3 oz between both sides which is slightly better than last night at this time and it's definitely becoming more milk coloured rather than just colostrum so hopefully it's on it's way..... I certainly don't remember this delay after my ds1, fingers crossed now! Thank you Smile
