My DD1 is only five days old, so I do feel a bit silly posting so early in the piece really, but her eating habits are so far from what my sons were I am wondering if they are ok and likely to change!
She eats greedily and enthusiastically, BUT only for about five to ten minutes - after this she falls asleep or gets upset if I try and encourage her to have more - and every hour, on the hour. It is ok so far but a few weeks down the track I think six feeds a night might be doing my head in! Is there any way of trying to encourage her to have a bit more at each feed without upsetting her, or is she likely to do this herself do you think?
Also, I have a LOT of milk, so I am starting expressing soon too - I feel like I have far too much for her little snacks!
Any advice would be gratefully welcomed - my son was a straightforward feeder and moved to formula with ease after a few months, so not sure how to deal with anything out of the ordinary!

It sounds perfectly normal to me, don't worry. Your milk will settle down so don't worry about that either. My DS 4 did this until he was around two weeks old. He fed every hour for around ten minutes. He has now shifted to two to three hours between feeds at 9 weeks old but still only feeds for ten minutes then sleeps :)

Congratulations on your little bundle :)

DD fed little and often in the early weeks. One side for one feed then the next side for the other, think it was why I never got sore as each breast had a decent break between feeds. I used to express off tiny bits (even 10ml or so) and freeze it. She chubbed up beautifully Smile.

She's only 5 days old, nothing she does now is going impact on her sleep in a few weeks. She sounds absolutely normal.

Oh thanks for your responses! A relief to hear that it is nothing to be concerned about. I dont want to push her into any pattern she isnt comfortable with if this is what she fancies for now. Will just enjoy her and not worry then! :)
