My baby has lip tie....

Anyone had the procedure to correct this?
Breastfeeding has been causing me issues for over 4 months - sore nipples, milk blisters, blocked milk ducts and mastitis.
So pleased that now we could have found the cause - a piece of skin at the top of my baby's lip that joins to the gums. I am waiting for a referral to a specialist peadiatric surgeon and just wondering if anyone has any experience of the corrective procedure?

Hi pink
Has your baby have a tongue tie as well?

My son has lip and tongue tie, he had the tt snipped at 20 weeks and after he relearned how to latch there was a massive improvement in soreness.
I was told that in the UK they dont snip lip ties until much later and only if they interfere with adult teeth. In terms of breastfeeding that they use the top lip to form a seal.
Good information at the Milk Matters website.

Also well done for getting to four months bf despite all the soreness, esp mastitis (I wouldnt wish that on anyone).
:)

Agree with Nearly he could have a TT to they do tend to come hand in hand. DS has both but it hasn't caused any feeding problems for us.

TT doesn't have to be ovousie then can still be able to stick out there tounge, so do get this checked out.

No, I don't think she has tongue tie - it was definitely checked for as I have had so many problems, however hopefully the surgeon will check for both too, thanks Nearly and Mig.
The advice I've had is that it will be done, however if it's under general then I will definitely have a rethink!
