Breastfeeding a toddler - any benefits for allergies?

I know bf'ing babies helps reduce the incidence / severity of allergies. But does it have any effect at toddler age upwards?

I'm just interested as 2.2 y.o. DS has been diagnosed with various nut allergies. DH has muttered at points about weaning (I'm pg with DC2) but is fairly open to reason. If there were any benefits for allergies from continuing to bf, I'd like him to know about them. :)

I can't believe this hasnt got any replies!

Yes, tonnes of benefits to bf at toddler. All the benefits that existed in babyhood continue. Plus the closeness, often when they're ill breastmilk is the only thing they'll keep down, it's great for when they have crying/screaming fits or are upset for any reason really, it helps to calm them down when they can't calm themselves.

I'm a dumbass - my phone chopped off the bit specifically about allergies!

Apologies, there is info on allergies on that page too Smile

I'm interested in this too, for the same reasons (although I am not pg). Thinking about weaning 16mo DD3 who's slightly allergic to CMP and severely allergic to peanuts. Obviously know benefits in terms of BF vs hypo-allergenic formula for CMP, but wondering about benefits for peanut allergy. Will keep watching....

Thanks - I should have thought to look at Kellymom before I posted!

I know from experience lots of the other benefits of toddler bf and am not the slightest bit keen to stop. :)
