Dropping to two feeds a day at 7.5 months - is it ok?

DS2 is 7.5 months old and is on 3 good solid meals a day. He actually eats more than his nearly 3 year old brother for dinner Shock He has a wide variety of foods and has a tippy cup of cow's milk with a snack mid-afternoon instead of a breastfeed.

He won't take formula AT ALL - not in a bottle, not in a cup, not in cereal. He was very happy to switch his mid-afternoon feed for a cup of cow's milk and a snack and seems to be heading the same way with his mid-morning one.

He has a really good early morning feed and a really good feed before bed. Is this enough? I'm not sure he'll keep going with his mid-morning feed for much longer but I'm worried that when he drops down to two feeds it won't be enough milk for his age?

Thanks :)

He shouldn't really be having cows milk as a drink untill he's at lest 12months. Is there a reasion why you are giving him a drink in a cup instead of a breastfeed? ie work.

They do all differe and some drop milk feeds early on and become very intersted in solids. But in general you should offer a milk feed before solids at this age as it's still supposed to be the main part of there diet untill one.

There is some usefull info hear www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/solids-how.html

Thanks MigGril. I need to start getting a bit more flexibility around who can look after him really as I'm going to be working again in a couple of months.

I can't remember what I did with DS1 Confused but I'm pretty sure he was down to just a morning and evening feed by around 8 or 9 months.

The thing is, he's really not that bothered about daytime feeds - it's the morning and evening feeds that he asks for and really settles down to - in the day I have to persuade him to feed.

Maybe I should stick with the three feeds he's having at the moment for as long as possible, keep trying to get him to take formula from a cup (I really don't think he will though) and if he won't then it will just have to be two feeds and meals/snacks/water on the days he needs to be looked after by someone else. He'll still have the opportunity to fill up on milk in the morning and the evening.

ARgh - if I have another baby I'm definitely introducing bottles earlier.

Are you going back to work full time? Could he just have water with his meals, and extra breast feds on the days you are not at work?

I'm no expert but am going through similar decisions as you with my 9 month old.

No, won't be going back full time but don't think I could persuade him to have extra breastfeeds - it's hard enough getting him to have the one he has during the day at the moment!

He takes water really well from a tippy cup, and cow's milk (I know, I know, but it's not a main drink - just part of his afternoon snack once a day).

I think I'm just going to keep going with the 3 feeds he's currently having for as long as he'll stick with them and then when I'm working he'll just have to get what he needs in the morning and the evening - he'll be 8 nearly 9 months by then...
