When should I wean dd off her bottle at night?

My dd is now 19 months and only has a bottle with a teat at night before she goes to bed. In the morning she has milk from a bottle with a spout and the rest of the time she drinks water from a cup with a spout.

She's very happy with her night time bottle, it calms her down after the day's mischief and she knows that it's bed time when she's finished it and goes off happily to her cot - blowing kisses and waving night night - very cute! I'm worried that getting rid of the bottle will disturb her routine.

I have heard that you shouldn't let them drink from a bottle for too long so I was wondering when to drop the bottle and change to a cup? When did all you experienced mummies do it and how did your lo's react?

TIA

I took DS's bottle off him the week before last. He too was only having a bottle for bed so just bit the bullet and threw them all in the recycle bin. Think he was a bit narked for a couple of days (he didn't drink his milk) but didn't cry about it, and now is fine with it. I don't think he associates his bottle of milk and bed though, which is probably why it was easy. Saying that tho, we took DD's off her a 10 months and that really wasn't much more difficult (am a cruel mummy!).

My dd is 2.10 and still has a bottle of milk before bed!! She doesnt eat a lot ( thats another thread!!) But to us bottle = 12 hours of unbroken sleep, without she would wake up hungry and won't settle as well in the first place.
My dd has never had a dummy or a comfort blanket, the bottle at night is her comfort thing and I'm not going to take it away just yet as it keeps her happy!!

I switched my ds 2 18months from bottle to beaker about 2 months ago and i was dreading it thinking that it would really disrupt his bedtime routine but it didn t at all,he wasn't really bothered where his milk was coming from as long as it was there!
You are already half way there tangerinecath as your dd will take a teat anyway, she ll probably really surprise you and take to is straight away.GOOD LUCK

I did both of mine at 12 months give or take a week or two with no trouble. Although neither are big milk fans and both eventually dropped bedtime milk. DD is 20 months though and insists on a morning cup of milk which she sometimes finishes in seconds - other times doesn't touch.

Thanks ladies, might just give it a go and see what happens. I can always try again in a couple of months if it turns into a nightmare.

My older 4 were roundabout 13 months or so when I switched from bottle to cup of milk for bedtime, no problem.

ds4 is now 13 months and I am wondering if the time has come for him to make the change too.....feel a bit sad about it really as he will be my last baby...probably

I would say at his age tangerinecath, give it a go.
