He was born on the 9th percentile and is now on the 50th at 8 months - he weighs 18lb.

I am breast feeding and he also eats normal food. Took him to see the health visitor to be weighted as I am lazy and havent bothered for 4 months he was due to be seen and happened to mention that he still wakes looking for boob every hour it seems although probably less during the night - we co sleep.

She asked what he has in a typical day and says that he is not eating enough, that he is filling himself up during the night so I need to drop night feeds. He has:

Morning - Readybrek with a yoghurt, water/baby juice in a bottle
Snack - fruit or baby biscuit
Breastfed for nap time
Lunch - mashed banana on toast, jelly/yoghurt
Breastfed for nap time
Dinner - brocoli, carrot, baby sweetcorn, cheese, with more yoghurt/fruit.
Breastfed for nap
Then whatever I am eating for dinner stolen from my plate.
Breastfed for bed then on and off all night.

He has juice/water all through the day, occasional slices of cheese, toast etc depending on the day.

That was what he had yesterday, other days he will have chicken dinner, spag bol, dippy egg etc pretty much what ever I am doing for me.

HV seems to think he needs more cows milk (I already make his breakfast with full fat milk) and more yoghurts. Less breastfeeds.

He doesnt always eat what he is given. He prefers to throw it around, suck it and spit it out, mash it into his hair etc.

What do you think? What does your baby eat?

His diet sounds very similar to that of my DS at that age, he was also waking up every couple of hours through the night. At his 8 month checkup the HV said he shouldn't be breastfed anymore Shock and should be sleeping through the night

I thought about it for about 5 seconds before deciding she knew shit all Grin

DS is now 15mo, eats well throughout the day, has a nap late morning/lunchtime, goes down around 7.30pm in his cot, wakes around 11ish then comes in with me and sometimes sleeps until 5 or 6am. Sometimes he wakes in the night, has a quick feed and back off to sleep.

OP it will get better. Oh, and take no notice of the HV.

wow I think he's eating more then my 15month old, who sleep's better then that to although still wake's a couple of times during the night. (We co-sleep to so I'm not alway to aware of how often he wakes). We also put him to sleep in his travel cot in the evening so I can get stuff done sit on sofa and watch TV

So I think your doing great. Mite want to drop the juice though no reall need for juice and it just gets them used to drinking something sweet rather then water.

I will not swear, it's unkind to swear at HVs.

Ignore, I'd have been delighted if either of my DDs had eaten that much.
As for drinking milk other than BF DD2 never has, not one bottle or one cup in here entire life.
She's 10 she still doesn't, she hates milk, she simply lived on yoghurt.

Thanks everyone, I do have a bedside cot but he will only sleep if he is in my arms, I dont really mind to much, he is so tiny and I dont have long before he is a smelly grunting teenager who wont let me anywhere near him so I am trying to make the most of every snuggle Smile

I dont think I will bother taking him back to the health visitor, I thought she was talking rubbish just needed it confirmed!

Thanks again
