Do blood sugar levels affect your milk?

Given that milk is made from the blood, I wondered whether varying levels of blood sugar in the mother translate to any difference in your milk?

I've recently discovered that I'm sensitive to sugar, which means that my blood sugar levels fluctuate more than the average person and I was intrigued whether it made any difference to my milk.

Don't know the answer to your question, sorry AngelDog, but I'm really interested to know because there is diabetes in my family. I know that insulin sensitivity can be inherited, so presumably breastfeeding your child might help to reduce their risk of developing it in later life, so that's a great start. I would have thought the sugar content of the milk would remain quite tightly regulated, but that breastfeeding might have more of an effect on the Mum's sugars (i.e. lower them), but this is just a guess - does anyone out there know the answer??!!

Are you feeding now or hoping to AngelDog?

Would be interested to know too.

I know the woman who wrote the book about sugar sensitivity (called Potatoes not Prozac) says that bf is much better in general and particularly if you have a child who may be sugar sensitive (which appears to have a strong hereditary element) as it does reduce the effect on them.

I'm feeding DS who is 2.2.
