is it time for me to stop breastfeeding?

ds (8 months) normally feeds from me first thing in the morning then has bottles in the afternoon and at bedtime. the last couple of mornings he's been a real grouch - fed from me OK, but wasn't interested in his breakfast. today he's been particularly grotty. it then occurred to me that his cry sounded like a hungry cry - offered him a bottle and he devoured the lot. this is only an hour and a half after feeding from me.

ideas?

How long have you been feeding once a day for?

Were you feeding exclusively at any point?

I've dropped to one feed a day, but DS was 18m before I did this. We've kept up the night feed rather than the morning, but I'm not sure if this makes any difference.

Perhaps the feed is enough to take the edge off his appetite for b/fast, but not enough to keep him going. Could you try giving him a cup of milk with his b/fast and feeding at night instead?

thanks laura. i breastfed exclusively til ds was 5 months, then introduced a bottle for the bedtime feed as it was a struggle to get him to take much from me when he was tired - he took to the bottle surprisingly quickly and enthusiastically. i introduced a bottle for his afternoon feed about 3 weeks ago - so that's how long we've been on one bf a day.

i'm not sure what's going on with him today actually. he refused solids at lunchtime but wolfed down another bottle (i don't normally give him milk at lunchtime but needed to give him something before we went out). he#'s just polished off another bottle - the 3rd today (on top of the bf first thing this morning).

teeth, i wonder...?

ds3 gets like this with bottles, not from the breast though. When he does, it's usually teething!

All depends what you want to do really. If you want to continue breastfeeding then keep going. You will have milk as long as you continue to feed. You can also increase breastfeeds if you want too.
