Dr Browns bottles - finding a bottle you can shake

I am pg with my second, and used Dr Browns when I started bottle feeding DD. I thought they really helped her wind, and she seemed so much more content during the feed from these bottles that I know that we will use them for baby number 2.

I used to prepare the feeds in advance in the morning for the rest of the day, adn I keep them in the fridge (not recommended now, I know).

As you can't shake Dr Brown's bottles to disintegrate the milk powder without the milk going everywhere, I used to use an old Avent bottle that came ith my breast pump that had a screw top lid. I can't find it anywhere now though!

Does anyone know where I coudl buy a bottle (that takes up to 240 ml) with a screw top so that I can shake up the feed please?

Try the Nuk ones. Boots sell them either individually or in packs of 3. I used them with DD2 as she too had wind issues and they proved far better than the Avent ones I used for DD1.

I use tommy tippee. Never had a problem with colic. You can get them from nearly all supermarkets, boots, superdrug, home bargains & mothercare :)

I use a knife to stir the formula when I'm making up a bottle and it works a treat. I make sure the water is still quite hot so the formula dissolves. I use a knife rather than a spoon so it can get to the edges.

Actually you still can prepare in advance, once you use hot water (above 70 deg) and then cool immediately. Obviously the fresher the better though.

I used to put in a small amount of water and then swish it around before putting in the rest. I remember some people saying they used the long plastic thing in the bottle to stir. But possibly most relevant to you is that I saw Dr Brown lids in my local baby shop about a year ago. I was still breastfeeding exclusively so didn't get them, but you might be able to track them down.

i use avent bottles but i dont shake them, i tip them in my hand from side to side and sort of swirle it about? it mixes the powder in fine, if you shake them with hot water it can go all bubbley i find.

could you not do that with the dr brown ones? wiht the avent ones i put on the teat and the lid etc and then tip it like i said and that works fine no milk everywhere.

Dr Browns have travel caps now, I bought some for when I was feeding DD. Amazon have them, or maybe ebay would be a bit cheaper.

We use Dr Brown's! Someone's already posted the caps, which we have, and DH sometimes uses.

Otherwise, we measure out the powder first into the bottle then use a spare bottle to measure out the water, in 100ml+whatever amounts, swilling vigorously between batches of water asap when the water hits the powder (ie whilst there is still plenty of space in the bottle to get it all moving. Sounds a fiddle, but isn't, and with a decent swill feeds aren't lumpy. Not sure I've explained this v well - agree it is a PITA you can't otherwise shake the bottles.

Thanks for all the replies. I am definitely using Dr Browns from whenever I start bottle feeding this rtime round, having tried everything else (including TT and NUK) last time, and I really felt that these were better for DD. Lets see how they suit the next one!

I have bought the tracvel caps/lids direct from Dr Browns website as the delivery charge was less. I am so pleased that they've brought them out! And very glad of the suggestions, as I hadn't realised that such things now existed.
