We are trying to get our 6 weeks old ds to have larger feeds so he goes longer between each feed.

We are currently using Avent bottles and he is on the No 1 Teat which is newborn.

Should I move him up to the No 2 teat - will this mean he will take more feed?

It might mean he gets more wind

yes thats is what I'm worried about.

How about the variables so you can change during the feed. If he takes it too quickly/much he mnay just throw it back though. Their tummies are weeny !

doesn't necessarily mean he'll take more. he'll still stop when he is full up... a faster teat won't alter that.

how long does he go between feeds atm? and how much does he take in a feed?

ime the lower number teat the more wind get. I have always used variflo teats for my boys and they fed well and quickly. highly reccommend them.

I bottle fed my son and the midwife told me to go straight onto the no 2 teat and not even bother with the no 1/newborn ones. He fed very well.

ds is coming up for a year and still only on no2 teats!

I've changed my 8 week old's teats to medium last week as he was feeding slowly and tugging at the teat plus had loads of wind. It took me a whole day to realise this was what he needed. We use tommee tippee bottles as my ds wouldnt take Avent but even the slow tommee tippee bottles are faster than the Avent no.1 IMHO Avent no.1 teats are too slow. If I were you i'd try him on no.2 with one bottle and see how he goes.

I'm not really sure how much he's taking because he's mostly breastfed.

He has the odd bottle and normally struggles to take more than 2 Oz's.

He feeds every hour to two hours which is a killer at night, hench the change to bottles.

Thanks for the advice.

I changed my Daughter aged 5 weeks onto number two teats when she was three weeks old on advice from my midwife as she was getting lots of wind on the number one teats. IMO she fed lots more when i changed the teat as she didn't have to work as hard and seemed to stay awake longer during the feed.

Why don't you try a couple of bottles if your little one doesn't seem to like them you can always store them until he is ready.
