This is a question for mothers that BF on demand and ascribe to AP methods. How old were your babies/children when you left them with DH/DP for the first time?

DS is almost 16 weeks and I am itching to go to the gym for an hour or so. It would take me about 20min to get home if I was needed.

I am ridiculously nervous about leaving him. He usually nurses every 2 hours day/night. I do not express milk and would not want to start.

DS has a wonderful relationship with DH so I know he would be in good hands but I am still worried about it.

Perhaps I am subconsciously reluctant to start working out again!

3 weeks. DH had him in a sling, I BF before going, there was EBM in a cup and I would have been home in 10 minutes. DS slept the whole time.

I left DS for the first time last week whilst I went swimming. He was 8 weeks old.

I don't think I left DS until he was around 16 weeks or so - my first outing was to get a 60 minute massage! Grin I fed him before leaving and was only 10 mins away. It worked out just fine - he was certainly ready for a feed when I returned, but he was absolutely fine with DP. Do it - you'll feel really good for it (although it'll be very weird the first time!!)

I think I will have to bit the bullet and leave him for a little while! Thanks for the help. :)

When LO was three weeks old I went cycling for the first time in three months. I was only gone 90 minutes. Felt very worried the entire time but everything was fine. She slept the whole time (I'd fed her to sleep minutes before going out) and she only woke up as I came in through the door! After that i used to go out for 2-3 hours once a week, but we found that from about 7 or 8 weeks she would wait for me to return and breastfeed rather than take expressed milk in a bottle. At around 10 weeks I didnt worry about it anymore as she was obviusly doing really well, and so I went cycling for 3-4 hours once a week and she was absolutely fine till I got back. I did literally feed her two minutes before leaving the house every time though (got ready except for sports bra, base ayer and jersey then put them on at the last minute as I was walking out) then fed her again as soon as I got home!

About 9 days Blush - my mother was staying with us and DH and I went to a local community event (5 minutes walk away) - one terribly pious 'friend' said to me 'how can you possibly leave your baby'? Grin

TheRealMBJ · 06/02/2012 14:45

With DH? 3 weeks to go grocery shopping and from about 10 weeks every morning for about an hour while I slept.

With anyone else? SIL at 11 weeks to get a haircut (1hr) and MIL at 20ish weeks for a few hours to go out for my birthday.

DD is almost 15weeks old and she has never been away from me for longer than 10 minutes Blush

DS was 12 weeks - I went for lunch and dh fed him expressed milk.

DD - er a few weeks old for an hour while I took DS out. She's 9 weeks now and not tried a bottle yet though

Alright...looks like I am going to leave the house tomorrow without a baby attached to my body!

I will let all of you know how it goes.

About 12 weeks, started back at netball. Must have text DP about 10 times in 90 minutes and called 4 times as he didn't reply to my texts quickly enough! Grin

She's now 6 months and I still text about 3 times in 90 min Grin it's going down in my defence!

The thing is, she is fine and it is good for dad to bond and her too and for her to get used to mummy not being around all the time (I still find it hard though and I'm of the AP kind too). In fact DP, I think, was getting a bit put out that I wouldn't leave her, "thinking" I didn't trust him (she takes expressed bottle no problem now, we do 2 a week for my netball training and match nights). Of course I trust him but just find it really hard to leave her! I'm probably daft Blush

Exercise is good for you: mind, body and soul. Definitely recommend joining a team as if I don't go I let people down (harder to do than just going to the gym, not as much motivation!!) I just value being an individual/team player/ friend for an hour not just "mummy"

Good luck Smile

I left DD with DH at 10 days old as my section wound had come open and it was easier for my mum to nip me to the doctors than all 3 of us trek down there. I fed her before i left and she stayed asleep the whole time, i was gone less than an hour. She's 5wks now and since then I've had to leave her for max of 2hrs on Saturdays and Sundays to get wound dressed at walk in centre but we live across the road from it so i feed her before i go and then plan that DH brings her to me for a feed whilst I'm waiting if she needs it but she never has. I left her with mil for 30 mins last week as well whilst i had wound dressed but again she'd been fed and mil was walking her round town shopping and she stayed asleep the whole time, i think about her the whole time I'm away, i never worry about leaving her with DH but hated leaving her with mil even though i knew she'd definitely stay asleep being in her pram

Hmmmmm, not sure. A haircut at around 4, 5 months I think?
