Hi neurotic new mum here! My DD is 5 wks old, she currently has five feeds of 3oz, and a last feed of 4oz each day. She polishes off every bottle, every time - should i up all her feeds to 4oz? My worry is that after her last feed she sleeps for about 5-6 hours, i don't want this during the day. I don't know her weight, or weight gain as can't get to the clinic at the moment (c-section) - any advice greatly appreciated!

Hi

I bottlefed my daughter and the way I always used to up feeds was if she drained a certain amount consistently I would add an extra ounce - she may only take a small bit of the bigger feeds for a while but that may be all the extra she needs. Does she down the whole feed and end up sucking on air because she has taken the whole lot or is she finishing 4oz and leaving a dribble?

Fee77, if you want to know the your DD's weight you should ask the health vistor to come to you, with her scales, and weigh her.

To be honest, at 5 weeks, I think it's great that she goes so long. My 10 week old only does 6 hours straight. But if you don't want her to sleep so long during the day, personally, I'd wake her to feed her. After all, the idea is to get lots of milk into her during the day so that she'll stretch out that last sleep.

Hi ! My health visitor recently said to increase the amount by 1oz when they are consistently draining the bottle. Sounds like she's doing really well with her sleeping. As BR said, hopefully the more that goes down during the day, the longer the stretch at night ( at least, that's the theory !)
