I am still bf my 2.5 year old daughter, never thought I would get this far and also never thought i wanted to stopppppp, now I really do and am finding it tough.

Lemon juice in nipples works a treat, then when she asks and my boobs are killing I give in!

Any magic solutions/1!

I stopped feeding my son when he was about 20 months so this approach may not work for you but... I cut down from twice a day to once a day to once every two days, three days and so on over a period of 6/8 weeks. Motivation was high because it was killing my boobs as I was pregnant. It wasn't completely tears free but it felt quite gentle as a way to do it.

Thank you!

I have started the process, simply saying no it's sore and have cut down to morning and evening with the morning one being as short as possible. I will try your tip, I guess it has to be gradual!

Y nipples are killing too from her biting!!

I think I'm getting to this stage with ds. Not because of anything he does, but because I really want to ttc and it's not working while I'm bf. He's 2.3 now and that age gap is only going to get bigger.

I haven't started cutting down firmly yet, but I am doing my utmost to avoid being in a place he associates with daytime feeding. In my case on the sofa or by the computer. And keeping him topped up with snacks non-stop.

I have noticed he's more grumpy though, which is a real pain.

Will hang around waiting to see more ideas.

Ds is 21 months, my mum says put him on a bottle Hmm but he's just so attached to the breast.

JuicyShops · 07/02/2012 12:41

I have not considered a bottle, seeing as she is well over 2.

I think the key is breaking the habit! Any time i sit down to the computer she wants a feed, then when I wake up and bed time. If i don't sit down at the computer I can distract her with a cup of hot milk in her new big girl Dora cup.
I think most of the time I am to blame as I give in.

I have also started, when she asks, saying Mummys boobys are sore but you can try a bit then letting her have a little bit and then distracting her by saying ooh look what's out the window.

Saying that I am not doing that well!!

Hi JuicyShops,
I'm like you, I cannot sit down at the computer while ds is awake. Hence I'm actually playing a lot more with him Blush

Ds is being very sweet. I explained on Monday that now there is no more milk in the daytime, just first thing in the morning and at night before he goes to sleep. He keeps coming up to me and aaking "Have milk?" in a little voice, but mostly seems to accept no for an answer. He's eating me out of house and home though!

I used to feed him to sleep for his nap, and now rock him in the pushchair or go for a walk instead. I optimistically tried to settle him in his bed the first day, but that ended with a hysterical boy sobbing that he wanted to PLAY PLAYDOUGH DRINK WATER AND NO SLEEEPING. So that was abandoned for the easy life of a little walk.

Next week I'm going to stop the morning feed, which I think will go ok, I'll just have to get up and play with him when he wakes, instead of dozing for another hour while he feeds.

But if anyone can tell me how we will stop milk at bed time, which is what he uses to go to sleep, I'm all ears.

Gosh, I'm overtaking your thread. But it's nice to know that I'm not the only one going through this at the moment.
