mixed feeding when I start work

I am going back to work mid Feb, when DS will be 8 months old. We are B/F and BLW at the moment.

I am going to B/F him in the morning and in the evening, but when he is at nursery they will give him follow on milk in a cup. (I am not very good at pumping, would have to spend the entire day at work expressing in order to get enough to keep him satisfied in nursery, I think).

My question is; on my days off, should I continue the routine of giving him breast milk morning and evening, and formula out of a cup during the day, or will it be ok just to breastfeed him all day when I am at home?

I did this with the first two (DS around the same age as yours, DD1 a few months older) and just breastfed on demand when at home -- they had cut down a fair bit by then anyway so it wasn't a huge amount more than the morning/evening feeds during the week. It seemed to work fine.

I gave DS formula during the day once I went back to work. After a couple of months I decided just to go back to BFing on demand during the day at weekends and it worked fine. Occasionally on Monday I'd be a little full but it was never a real problem. And miles easier than making up formula.

I'm returning to work soon too and DD will have formula whilst with her childminder but I intend to continue morning/evening (and night!) feeds and will probably do weekend feeds too.

Mixed feeding has worked really well for me and kept me sane. A also have a mate who has done one feed per day for months so it can be done.

Thanks for your advice.

Will carry on B/F on demand. I am only working 3 days, so at home more than at work. Hopefully he will cut down a bit soon (no signs of feeding less so far, but we will see ...)
