Can you recommend me a good up-to-date BF book please?

I didn't manage to BF DS1 or DS2. Neither of them latched on at all for even the smallest suckle. The hospital MWs were at a loss as to what else to do.

with DS1 I had EMCS under general anaesthetic due to foetal distress. He was born with and APGAR of 1 and given a bottle before I'd even come round. I continued trying for 10 days, giving bottles and not really knowing what to do. The community MW would try and put him on me everyday with no success.

For this pregnancy, I'd like to have a bit more knowledge about how to tackle this non-latching thing if it happens again, So can you recommend me a good book?

I love The Womanly Art of BF, it's just been revised (last year I think?) and is full of detailed info.

I would recommend going to a BF group so you can get some support as well as arming yourself with the info. With most BF groups you can go along before your baby arrives so you can learn more about BF and what to do if you have any issues.

My favourite is The Food of Love by Kate Evans. It's easy to read, not jargony or patronizing and comes at it from the 'right' angle as far as I'm concerned!

The one mentioned above is good also if you want something with LOTS of detail!

Definitely get some support lined up in advance, it can be really tough, especially in the early days. If you have Surestart in your area, most centres have some kind of support group. Good luck!

Thank you for these. I'll check them both out.

I have 'Ina May's Guide to Breastfeeding' by Ina May Gaskin (a well-respected american midwife). Easy to read, and I can't think of one area of breastfeeding that it doesn't cover. ISBN 978-905177-33-2 RRP £11.99. Happy to gift you my copy if you'd like it - I would just be pleased it went to a good home. :)

I found kellymom.com/ the most helpful website ever! She does cover parenting but predominately breastfeeding.

Agree with other posts about going to breastfeeding groups, mine was invaluable

All the best, I hope it works this time around Smile
