Let down/drop

Do you always feel the let down/drop when you feed.

Not sure I do, especially when DD is cluster feeding.

Normal? Problem?

Some mothers feel it very strongly, some don't at all :) Is there anything else that's making you worry?

Yeah was posting yesterday about baby with slow weight gain. Just trying to do all I can to help her and work out why her growth might be slow and make sure I have enough supply and am feeding properly.

I didn't always feel a letdown when DS was cluster feeding. Now he's older I sometimes do, sometimes don't. For me it can depend strongly on how long it has been since I last fed him.

Some good info here.

How old is DD? I am assuming not more than a few weeks if you are cluster feeding often? Google biological nurturing and ensure lots of skin to skin contact. As long as she is not consistently losing weight then don't worry too much. Have you tried expressing to check your supply? Plenty of wet nappies? Does latching hurt/is baby distressed at feeds (could be a sign of slow letdown - or conversely overacting letdown! Confusing I know. Confused) These are the first things I'd check and if all ok and baby is happy in herself (not withdrawn, limp, etc) then I would say it sounds as though you're doing fine. Babies aren't always big! Easier said than done not to worry I know. If in doubt go and see your local peer support group. In fact I'd do that anyway - they were a great support to me. Good luck.

DD is 6 weeks. Expressing not great. Lots of wet nappies. Baby not distressed. Going to pop into a local support group on Tuesday.

Thank you

Dont forget that expressing and actually feeding aren't going to yield the same amount of milk necessarily as it is the hormones when you feed DD directly that encourage letdown. I could only ever get 1oz or so when expressing yet DS was EBF for 6 months and my supply is still good (and enjoyed by him!) a year on. Try not to let it stress you out as that won't help matters! Hope you get some good support at the group. :)
