Constantly biting 6 month old - OUCH

DS is just six months and has always been partial to the occasional chomp Hmm (may have been down to fast let-down?) but in the past couple of days it's gone haywire. I've just nursed him to sleep (now snoozing on my knee :)) but he must have bitten me about a dozen times. Same thing last night. OW.

No teeth yet, thank god, but I think they're trying to break through (so is this the issue?).

I'm trying to just tell him no quite firmly but he's 6 m so clearly doesn't understand. He finds it hilarious when I squeal :(

Dita congratulations on getting to six months Smile. You have my sympathy with the biting. My DS did this when he was teething at around 7 months. I phoned the NCT Bfing line and the BFC said "some mothers find it helpful to feed lying down for a couple of days". I did this and luckily for us the biting stopped.

Have you read this or called one of the helplines?

Thanks Julie - I'm liking the idea of feeding lying down Wink

I should have known to have a look at Kellymom really Blush I just thought he was too young to be "trainable". Sounds as though it must be his teeth, poor mite. Might try to get him something to chew on tomorrow. He's going to get himself weaned at this rate.

Hope everything's going okay with Gordon btw Wink

If you push him up into your breast when he bites, he will un-latch automatically

It does pass though

Turned out he was a moron afterall, but I still married him Grin.

Have you tried all the usual, like dentinox, ibruprofen and chewing on a wet flannel? DS that is not you!

Saying no and stopping the feed seems to be doing the trick :) Hooray!

(Btw apologies, Julie, you must get people saying that all the time Blush ... if it helps, I had the song stuck in my head for about three days)

Don't worry, you are only about the 3rd person to mention it so far and it's nothing to do with most of the posters being too young to have heard of Jilted John. Well at least that's what I keep telling myself.....

Really glad the biting has decreased and hope your earworm changes soon Smile.
