Is the amount of milk produced in our breasts the same for each pregnancy? Or different?

Hi,

I'm pregnant with my 3rd baby and am starting to wonder whether I'll have the same problem this time round than my previous 2. I was only able to bf my first 2 for about 2 months until there was just no milk to take any more. During this pregnancy I've noticed that I've been lactating more, but let me explain that 'my' lactation is hardly a dribble and do not need a pad to save my bra's or embarrassment. It irritates me when I hear that some women just have to pinch their nipples and milk will literally squirt out. Would this mean I might have a higher chance of breast feeding longer this time round? Or should I just expect the same as before? Anyone else been in a similar situation? :)

Hi,
my milk supply has increased this time round. I ebf ds for 4 weeks before mw persuaded me to give ff top ups as he wasn't gaining enough weight (got down to 0.4th percentile!)
This time dd is almost 6 wks and so far (touch wood) so good. I too have never had to use pads and can hardly express an ounze in 1hr but she's regained her birth wieght and put on in the first 3 weeks!
Good luck - i know what you mean about the irritation - its really heart breaking when you feel you can't feed your own dc, like you've failed them. Hope you have better luck this time.

Ahh well that's promising! Thank you. Yeah both times before I was told to do top ups with formula milk, at first the mw was convinced that I wasn't feeding properly, showed me a technique different to what I was originally doing and came back still with no joy. Everything has been different so far with this pregnancy, expecting my first DS too so fingers crossed! Thanks again.x
