My bastarding, bloody boobs hurt AGAIN

DD is five months. In those five months I've probably had five days when my boobs haven't hurt

I was treated for thrush a couple of months ago. Still not sure if I had it (have never had thrush before, no antibiotics, not all the symptoms but some)

DD is massive. She's huge and strong and feeds ferociously. I'm so careful with latching her on. She is hard to handle being the size of a one year old but needing the support of a five month old

She feeds 'hard' and quickly. If she sucks on your finger it hurts, no wonder it hurts my poor boobs

I've seen the Nct lady, back in the early days. I'm sure the latch is good. But if it is why dies it always hurt. It gets better, just uncomfortable but always gets back to being downright painful

I just don't know what to try next. Just seems that it's always going to hurt feeding her

I fed DS until he was one and a half. I thought it would be easier a second time. But it's not Sad

Poor you, I can relate to how it feels for every feed to hurt. DS was/is big (91st centile) and was tongue tied. We finally managed to get the tt snipped at 20 weeks but prior to that every feed hurt. You are doing so well to keep going despite the pain. I was also treated for thrush as the GP mistook the whitness of nipple blanching for it.

I finally got help over the phone from Charlie at milk matters and it was so good to talk to someone that for a start knew what they were talking about but also really cared. Milk Matters

In terms of position for a big baby I found biological nurturing to be the most comfy and it encourages him to latch on well Bio nurturing

The thing is, its not meant to hurt. So no matter how good the latch looks if it hurts there is something now quite right. Hopefully you can get some help, our first pain free feed I cried my eyes out with relief Smile

Thanks nearlyready. That tongue tie stuff is interesting. I myself have got a full on tongue tie, although don't seem to have suffered any I'll effects

She was checked when she was newborn. The Nct lady thought she might have a very slight one but varuious other people looked end said not

From that list of symptoms and signs she hadn't really got any other than excessive weight gain (totally off the chart, nearly 23lbs at 21 weeks) and she is a noisy feeder. My nipples are a bit mis shapeen I think, they're ravaged basically

I'll have another good look at your links

Have tried biological nurturing, it didn't seem to work well. My boobs are massive but I think we'll give it another go

Thanks again I really appreciate your help Smile

Did your son mind having it snipped at 20 weeks? I was under the impression it needed to be done when they were new?

I think tongue tie is definitely a possibility. Not sure where to go for help with that though.....

No problem P. It didnt bother DS one bit, he cried a little and there was a little blood. I put him to the breast straightaway and he fed, after about ten mins the doctor came back and DS was laughing away at him. It was around another two weeks and with some help from a super peer supporter that the feeding became pain free.

I had to be really careful with latch as DS was used to feeding a certain way, I found Deep latch technique to help.

I had a number of people look at his mouth prior to contacting Charlie, MW, HV, GP, Paediatrician and they all said he looked fine Hmm. Another link for you www.analyticalarmadillo.co.uk/2012/01/mild-tongue-tie.html
