Boobs suddenly sore a week after last feed

I stopped feeding 12mo dd a week ago. We had only been doing 1 feed in 24 hours for about 2 weeks beforehand and I didn't feel much discomfort at all at first. Yesterday however, my boobs started to feel sore when touched and they are quite a lot worse today. I'm not feeling engorged, just a lot of pain when touched. Does anyone have any experience of this or advice? I'm just a bit worried that it could be the start of an infection especially since everything had been fine to start with.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Hopeful evening bump. Even more sore this evening but still not constant, only when bumped in to by dcs. Sad

Last hopeful bump. Right side now very sore but still mostly only when touched. Left also sore. Kids sick so really don't want to take them up to the docs unless I really have to. Anyone know if this is a normal part of stopping feeding or if I should be more worried?

I don't remember having anything like this with DD1. I felt 'full' for a while afterwards (also stopped at 12 months) but no pain. Does it feel hot to touch or look red at all? Are you taking any pain relief? Ibuprofen might help...

Do they feel like they're full? I found this when I was cutting back from 2 feeds to 1 feed a day (DD is 16mo), and hand expressing or feeding relieved it. Maybe try expressing a little bit for comfort, this shouldn't stimulate production. If this doesn't help and they're still painful it might be worth going to your GP as you don't want to risk mastitis. HTH

Thanks both of you. They don't really feel full or hot and red. I don't remember anything like this when I weaned my ds at a year old either. Not sure if it's getting worse or better today so don't really know if I need to seek help. Maybe will see the gp on Monday if things are no better. It's quite an odd symptom I think since I was fine for a week and now it's only sore to the touch and not constant or full. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi don't worry I think it is normal and I remember the same thing (I stopped just over a month ago). I think its the moment when your boobs realise you really are stopping and not just having a few days off.

I remember the discomfort felt at the back of my boob first, then over next day moved out towards my nipple, then was gone. No particular leakyness or redness, but definitly sore when bumped.

After it passed my boobs got a smaller fast! So I think it is the sensation of all the milk zones going. I've got from 36a pre preg, to 40d at the peak of bf, and now probably back to a 36b.

Thanks, that's really reassuring. My right side, which had been the worst, is better today but my left is significantly worse. Fingers crossed I'm getting through it now though and will be back to normal soon. I'm not as worried now that the right has improved a good deal on its own.
