Zopiclon/Clonazepam and breastfeeding?

Does anyone know whether it is possible to takes either of these drugs whilst bfeeding (baby currently sleeps through the night). Or does anyone have a copy of Hale's 'Medication and Mothers Milk' that they could look them up in for me? Thx
Failing this does anyone know of any sleeping tablets that are suitable suring breastfeeding (severe long term insomniac but not ready to give up bfeeding just yet!) Thanks again.

Hi there, I was told not to take zopiclone whilst breastfeeding, as it gets into the milk and could make baby dangerously sleepy (I think it can suppress breathing). Don't know about clonazepam, but sounds from its name that it is a benzo (like diazepam, lorazepam etc) in which case also a "no-no" during breastfeeding.

I take occasional mirtazapine (an antidepressant) which my psychiatrist told me is ok during breastfeeding. You'd need to have it prescribed though.

sorry, meant to say mirtazapine really helps my insomnia. I take a tiny dose (7.5mg) and it works really well at helping me sleep.

princesslina - zolpiclon data and clonazepam data from LactMed the US database.

You could also contact Hale's Center for Infant Risk in the US or if you want UK based advice Wendy Jones (a pharmacist & BFC) runs the Drugs in Breastmilk Helpline and she is very, very good at her job (well I think it's her vocation actually Wink).

I hope you find a way to get the medication you need and continue bfing as long as you want to.

Thanks for this advice so far it is hugely helpful, this is actually for a client/friend of mine and she will really appreciate your advice, I will pass it on in the morning, she is doing so well with the breastfeeding against all odds, it is so lovely to see I would love her to be able to continue as long as she would like.
