What do you think of my MP's reply to letter about breastfeeding

JiminyCricket · 13/01/2006 22:14

...asking him to support the upcoming bill about supporting women's right to breastfeed in all public places?

Basically he said he supported promotion of breastfeeding as best for babies and would support women not being discriminated against in this area 'but my personal view is that certain pubs and courts of law should be excluded from these provisions'.

What sort of trouble HCC? Were they/you asked to stop?

harpsichordcarrier · 15/01/2006 18:47

not allowed MOM
I did ask for a separate room to be provided
much tutting

Meanoldmummy · 15/01/2006 18:48

Outrageous... Has anyone ever insisted on doing it anyway? Would they be physically removed do you think?

NotQuiteCockney · 15/01/2006 19:30

Gah, I didn't know that!

Presumably bottle-feeding is ok?

(I know a museum in the states where someone got in trouble for breastfeeding, but the guard was just being overly literal in their interpretation of the "no food and drink" rule. Well, probably just prudish and stupid, but they said it was because of that rule. I think the policy changed.)

HC, is it OK to bottlefeed in court?

harpsichordcarrier · 15/01/2006 22:03

I don't know tbh
it probably varies from place to place
most judges would not be too happy to have a baby in the courtroom

Agree with meanoldmummy and other comments - there should be NO exceptions because the principle remains the same whatever the environment (ie baby needs feeding).

It actually makes me depressed that in 2005 we're still having to campaign to change hearts and minds.

I'm grateful for this post, I will contact my MP.

yes babies not allowed in courts
PITA

Meanoldmummy · 15/01/2006 22:26

Exactly Belgianbun - someone should do it!! It would look great on camera and really embarrass all the old fuddy-duddise who still think breastfeeding is about funny women who like to flop their tits out for a laugh.

Most judges don't like babies in court tough shit!!!!

Meanoldmummy · 15/01/2006 22:26

fuddy-duddiestoo much wine again, oh dear!
