Dis intersted in Breastfeeding

My little one of 5 months has become dis intersted in Breastfeeding during the day and goes on it for 3-5 minutes as she prefers to see whats going on in her surroundings rather than feed. She makes up for it during the night and stays on my breast for ages it is driving me crazy and I constantly worry she is not getting enough milk. I have tried feeding in a quiet place with little distraction but she has not improved. Has anyone been through this?

Yep, it's a phase I'm afraid! They are nosy at this age. She will make sure she gets enough milk, though it might be mainly at night. Are you co sleeping at all?

I know two mothers who have little shawls/covers that their babies feed within. It stops them from looking around too much.

My DD was exactly like this too - I phoned the BFN around the 5 month mark really worried but as Bertie has said its a common phase and should pass. You could try to replicate nightime feeds during the day - i.e feed in a darkened room lying down and see if that helps.

Got exactly the same problem with my 4 month old DD. I think she was initially distracted by my 2 year old, and kept pulling off, but now, even when he isn't there, as soon as I try and get her to lie back to feed in my arms she just tries to sit up again. I have to feed her lying down in a darkened room to get her to eat in the daytime, and I feed her through the night in order for her to put on weight. She has been doing this for about a month and I can't see her growing out of it. I have had it suggested that if I gave her a bottle she might feed better (and that might mean I get more sleep), but I am coping ok, co-sleeping and only waking briefly, so I don't feel it is necessary, and as I had trouble with milk production with my first child, I now know that demand feeding is the best way to keep up my milk supply.

Try a pashmina over the shoulder? I know my baby feeds more efficiently if we're out and I'm trying not to flash boob at the whole of tescos or wherever!

3-5mins is long enough for some very efficient babies to get all they need at this age.

Mine were never as distracted as you describe, but I know if I tried to get them to stay on longer than they wanted so I could keep on MNetting then I was likely to get bitten.
