what would your response be?

I have changed my name but many will guess who I am when I give background

After being off sick due to sheer exhaustion as ds2 is up all night, I am back at work and have asked for redcuced working hours....

Anyway, my boss is trying to be 'supportive', but has suggested some scandalous things, one of which is 'weaning the boy off the breast'.

He mentioned it in a formal meeting yesterday in front of his deputy and today informally.

He thinks he is being supportive

I know what I would like to say, but remember he is my boss and I want him to reduce my hours

Any suggestions?

aposolgies for my unimaginative name change

oh thanks acnebride
I am a silly moo as I am now bawling my eyes out with relief that I can be open and honest and the boss won't get full verbatim notes on the meeting

The September issue is a valid one for where I work but it is not impossible (and they would struggle to give business reasons that would be water tight to refuse it)

I just think I have a real battle on my hands and am not sure if I am physically and emotionally strong enough to go the full way

it's so ironic that all this pressure and worry happens when you need it least

of course there could be a reason why there's a piece of work that won't finish until september (or whatever) but IMO they should get off their butts and advertise a pt job to share the work with you, or redistribute to others.

maybe not relevant in the field you work in - i'm used to work that is effectively pointless so there's no problem giving it to other people - you're probably more indispensible!

I live in Italy and my understanding that the legislation is far better for women in Italy. My friend said to me that once you are preganant you can more or less stop work under sickness benefit, further you receive 1000euro when you have your child. Italy is a country which loves children but families are being started later and later and they have hugh problems with a shrinking population and families being 1 child family (most family are 1 child). The government are trying to do everything in their power to envcourage women to have more children. The problem the government has is that a hugh chunk of the population works out of the tax system and therefore doesn't pay any tax and any tax breaks given by the government doesn't get to these people.

The system is just very different here.
