'Extreme' breastfeeding? really?!

I saw this article linked to on another site and wondered if it might include women Bf whilst sky diving or something... However, not much that is 'extreme' about it as far as I can see. Yes, it is the daily fail, yet agaib bashing BF women, or in fact, just women in general, but it has really annoyed me, especially the comments from the 'Bf counsellor'. Hmm

Finally - I had a psychiatrist tell me I was forcing my 22m DD1 to bf (amongst other not very nice things). I ended up having to see the Crisis team at the local hospital and spoke to the on-call psych. Dr and explained that my 'regular' Dr thought I was forcing DD1 to bf. The on-call Dr very gently explained she needed solids as well as bfs, so I said but she's been on solids since 6m and has 3 meals a day and snacks as well as bfing. He couldn't understand what the problem was with that at all and wasConfused by his attitude. He was of Asian/Indian heritage (fairly recently emigrated I'd guess too, as he had an Indian accent as opposed to a UK accent).

Truthsweet, I heard of a pyschiatrist who thought that bf a newborn in rugby ball position whilst standing up was incredibly bizarre behaviour!

Midwives had to explain it was a normal position and the mum (he was asked to see for PN depression) was standing cos her stiches hurt Xmas Sad

The ignorance of some hcp is shocking - the thing about heart rate being lowered by bf was disbelieved for ages cos the traditional thinking was that bf was a strain on the baby.

"many mothers are going to extraordinary lengths to make sure their babies get the best possible start in life."

Well let's line them up against a wall and shoot them, the freaks. If this was in any other context the tone of this article would have been very different.

CBC a passionate advocate of breastfeeding? My bottom. She does so much harm every time she opens her ill-informed mouth.

Finally - I was commenting on another thread that DD3's (who had bronchiolitis at the time) heart rate would drop from ~170hbp to

well obviously truthsweet you just FORCED that milk down her throat didnt you Hmm

Just the same as I rugby tackled DD1 and shoved my boob in her mouth just as she was telling me 'No Bah mummy!!' Hmm It's absolutely extraordinary how we manage to force our children into not only having a bf, but making them take more than they wanted too Confused.

The best bit about the 20g of bm (approx 20mls) was that DD3 had not long been on a tube feed of 25mls an hour so as hardly a huge amount (DD3 was about 3-4m at the time).

I was very confused as just how little milk they thought bfing mums made if 20mls was too much milk!
