Expressing hurts please help

Im finding after I've expressed my nipples feel like they have friction burns on the ariola. I'm using lanolin before I put the pump on and have it just above the lowest level of suction but it still leaves me sore.

I really need to be able to express regularly as I'm back to work fairly soon.
Any clever tips?

have you ever tried hand expressing?if your milk naturaly flows pretty quick it makes very little difference to the time it takes to collect it and i found didnt hurt at all

Do the shields rub on your nipples? Some pumps do sized shields as women aren't all the same nipple size (Medela and Ardo spring to mind but other manufacturers may do different sized ones too).

This is from Medela but the principle is the same whatever pump you use.

Thanks for the link Truthsweet i think my sheild is too big. Will order some smaller ones and hopefully that will solve the problem.

Thank you

My new smaller shield turned up today. Not only is it more comfortable I also got loads more milk (150ml as opposed to the 60ml I normally get). Makes me wonder how many other women who don't get much when they express are using a poorly fitting shield?

Yes, it's not an uncommon problem and with high street stores selling one-size-doesn't-fit-all pumps it can be a real issue.

So glad you got it sorted :) Truthsweet's an expert on expressing :)
