Ok DSis is very ill with D&V bug, she is exclusively BF her DD and Baby lead weaning.
I have all of her 3 DC at the moment [easier to have BF baby away from home as she settles better]
Questin 1
There is no BM for her so I am using Actimel 1st Milk no one would advise what to use and I feel this would be lighter/better then follow on milk, is this ok? Baby drinking it no problem
Question2
Mum is pumping for comfort I have told her freeze it and my DP would collect it later when dropping in supplies, Dsis has dumped milk as she does not want to pass on bug, Surely she has the antibodies in her system which will pass in to the BM which is better to protect her DD, Also if her DD does get D&V it would be better for her stomach. Who is right plse
Question 3
I am feeding 4 oz of formula every 2 1/2 to 3 hrs [same times Mum would BF] Does this seem ok? My DD was formula feed and would have had 7 oz at this age but I would prefer to feed baby less more often to be safe.
Question 4
I left solid food off today as I was afraid that baby would get D&V and wanted to keep fluid up would you give solids tomorrow?

Sorry for the the long post
TIA

It's better for baby to have bm even from her mum with a virus (she will already have been exposed to it prior to your Sister getting ill [bacteria in saliva/mucous/etc) - refridgerated would be better than frozen but if mum has already frozen it then that will be okay. BM will be better on her stomach if DN has D&V (it would be even better for her to feed directly off mum if she gets it but I understand why DN has gone to yours).

How old is baby? I'm assuming over 6m if on solids too so 4oz 2-3 hourly sounds about right. If she shows no sign of D&V then offering her, her normal foods would be fine.

I've just had a D&V bug and luckily it only lasted 12 hours. Out of my 3 DDs who got it the 2 who are bfing got it the least (but they did all get it!). I just bf on demand through out it.

Thank you, that is reassuring
Her DD is 7 months old, Mum has dumped 18 oz of BM today, but I will pass on this thread to her.
They are with me as Mum is so ill she cannot mind them, was unable to lift her DD this morning, I cannot stay at hers as I have 4 DC and TBH it is impossible to mind her BF DD at home as she keeps looking for Mum and will not settle or take a bottle there and will just scream.

I agree completely with TruthSweet.

It is better for her DD to have the breastmilk. I fed my DD through D&V bug (she came down with it first) when we were both vomiting and she was fine and recovered faster than me or DH.

If baby doesn't come down with bug then food fine. If she does breastmilk would be better for her than Aptamil 1st as it is more easily digestible.

Tell your sis not to worry, carry on pumping but freeze so your DP can collect for her DD.

It is hard with D&V, I remember once having food poisoning when DD1 was little and bfing her and puking in a bowl at the same time . It can leave you so very drained so it's lovely of you to look after your DN - you're a very nice Aunty and sister Smile

It your DSis wants proper advice try here.

I had a terrible D&V bug a couple of months ago. Felt absolutely wretched for about 36 hours but continued to feed my EBF DD. DH came down with the bug about 24 hours later but DD escaped the bug completely. I put that down to the fact that there were antibodies in my milk.

Thank you I cannot believe she dumped 4 and a half feeds, I hope your DD and you are better, I would def prefer baby to have BM espas she has been exposed to the bug. Can't believe the price of Aptamil Shock
It is kind of funny [not in a haha way] as she is really pro breast feeding to the point of upsetting people who can't or choose not to BF she does not believe that my milk never came in formula is the work of the devil Hmm and now her child has formula. Hopefully it will open her mind a bit. But I am going off topic and to an area I never comment but I am kind of enjoying the irony
