How to stop 'biting'?

It's not really biting as my 20 week old doesn't have any teeth, but recently when I am breastfeeding dd has started holding my nipple quite firmly between her gums. It hurts!

When she does this I have been putting my finger in her mouth to break the seal and get her off my breast, then waiting a few seconds before offering her my breast to latch on again. Will this work eventually?

Ouch clamping down like that does hurt, hope she doesn't start tge turning her head at the same time Shock

Basically that's what I did with dd, you interuot the feed. Did read one report that said to say no at the same time and to put them down.

Thank you, I'll keep doing what I'm doing and hope the head turning doesn't start!

If any of mine have bitten/gummed me they got a 'no' and put on the floor complete with a pointed ignoring (this is assuming they weren't a tiny baby!).

You can also try pulling baby into the breast momentarily covering their nose (by that I mean 1 second not any longer as that is not a good idea!) as usually they open their mouth to breath and release the nipple. If they don't release your nipple straight away, stop and use your finger to break the latch in the usual way.

My 17 week old is doing this too. I take her off, say no, then look away from her (usually because she grins at me and who could not smile back) put her down or wait a few moments before putting her back. Hope they stop this soon.

And yes the head turning pulling too is awful!
