Confused about sides & swapping & split feeds

My 3w baby is a great (breast) feeder, since our first attempt in hospital she has fed for 30-40 minutes every 3-4 hours and is gaining weight nicely already. I had twins last time so it feels much easier!

But.. With twins one thing was easier - they each had 'their' side for every feed and this time I keep losing track! I just feed from one side each feed, is that right?

Also when the twins are having their tea I give her a little top up / split feed for about 15mins. Otherwise bathtime is a disaster. I then give her the same side an hour or so later, before bed and maybe some of the other side if she is still 'rooting', I can still hand exp milk from original side but thought maybe it had got too slow for her.

Is that right? I'm now wondering if the split feed is a bad idea as she has started waking one hour after going to bed. Could be wind but she doesn't usually have any. Could it be due to giving her both sides, like baby indigestion?!

Sorry this is so rambling, I was up twice with baby and 3 times with DT1's bad dreams :-/

Generally the rule of thumb is to put your baby on one side, allow her to finish in her own time then offer the other side. Then at the next feeding time offer the second boob first. You may find a scrunchie on your wrist helps you to remember where to go next but to be honest it's not that important. You may be able to tell by the way that the breast feels.

What do you mean by a split feed?
