Breast fed gassy 1 week old

My newborn is a week today and I have been managing to breast fed . Since my milk came in she has been extremely gassy and her stomach is constantly churning , she gets very upset over what I presume is a gassy stomach and trapped wind, and often is sick a while after a feed . Last night she spent it screaming if I tried to put her down , and would only settle on the breast . Over the last 12 hours she has three had really watery , yellow poos . Is this normal ?

All sounds normal. It is probably just her digestion getting used to the milk. Try laying her on her back and gently cycling her legs as this can help get the wind out.

Sounds normal. It might not be wind at all - newborns just want to be at or near the breast all the time and cry if you try to put them down! If she gets upset try just putting her back to the breast, however recently she last fed.

And the really runny poos are normal ?

My ds's poo was always very liquid, with little white flecks in it - varied from yellow to green in colour. Like a korma sauce!

Not one thing you say indicates a problem with what sounds like a healthy, well-fed baby :)

Everyone's stomach churns and makes noises.

All babies bring milk back.

Week old babies all prefer to settle on the breast and stay close to mummy. Many will scream if put down.

Your description of her poo is normal.

You can still see the midwife if you feel you need someone to actually see your baby, though.

Ok thanks . Just thought id double check . Use to Au Pair for very young babies , but that's 15 years ago . I can't remember these little details !

When DS was very small, I used to feed him sitting up in bed at night and then sort of pop him under my arm so he was upright for a while before I put him back down. Seemed to make him more comfortable. I bought all the wind/colic things and only used any of them once - a few weeks later all his wind/discomfort had disappeared of its own accord anyway.
