Breast pads

i have accumulated a number of disposable breast pads which I'm not using because I find then uncomfy. Any ideas about what I could do with them? I thought of offering them to a refuge, is that a silly idea?

I'd also welcome recommendations - currently using Johnsons. I've used Asda's own (ok), Boots bog standard (papery and rough) and Mothercare (too big, also papery.) I'm quite tender due to stubborn thrush and have been advised to use disposables for that reason.

Hi Flamegirl,
When you get over the thrush, I could recommend the boots washable ones. They are comfy and you can't see them under your clothes.

As for disposables, I have only tried Tommee Tippee, but thought they were fine. Not rough, and invisible under your clothes.

Nice idea to donate them. I am sure there are plenty of bfing women in refuges who would be grateful. Maybe try Shelter??

I'd Freecycle them, probably easiest.

I gave a spare box to someone at the BF support group/baby cafe.

Lansinoh pads come highly recommended. I found Johnsons were good. Don't bother with Avent washables.

Latsia · 16/12/2011 21:35

Lansinoh were the only ones I tolerated. Everything else either stuck to me or rolled up into a ball or leaked. The Lansinoh ones stayed put, absorbed, didn't leak and never irritated.

Another vote for Tommee Tippee, other brands seemed a bit too tissuey when I tried them, these were good as well as being invisible under clothes. It did wind me up that they were individually wrapped though, I don;t know if they still are.

Lansinoh are the best by far. Buy them on amazon and they're much cheaper than in the supermarket

I'm becoming an expert. I bought little lamb washables but they just don't cut it, I am super leaky Blush

xlatia · 16/12/2011 23:07

Another vote for Lansinoh, they've got it all: preshaped, very thin yet extremely absorbant (and belive me, i'm leaking LOADS) and these sticky things which keep them in place. They're on offer in John Lewis currently, 60 for 5 quid, so even cheaper than all the own brands.

I had some lansinoh bought before baby arrived they were fab - couldn't remember where I'd got them - when they ran out so I replaced them with Johnson. These stuck to my nipple (like when paper sticks to your lip) so were really uncomfortable - cue frantic search for more lansinoh - in the end I bought a box on amazon :) - not tried washable ones.

I now have box of Johnson to get rid of.

Thanks all, very helpful!

I've tried the Tommee Tippee ones and I find they feel kind of synthetic and irritate my nipples and the Lansinoh ones which I love.

I've just ordered four boxes from Amazon as they seem to have the best deal at the moment.

JeewizzJen · 17/12/2011 08:14

Another vote for lansinoh, the only ones I can tolerate after trying loads of brands!

DomesticGoddess31 · 17/12/2011 08:45

Another vote for lansinoh, I buy in boxes of 60 from Amazon for a fiver.

startwig1982 · 17/12/2011 13:48

Johnson ones are awful, they stick to my nipples and make them really sore. I use boots ultra slim ones. They are a large size and are so comfy, I can't feel them!

lilham · 17/12/2011 16:16

I love the lansinoh too. Johnson is ok. Asda isn't absorbent enough for me. Sainsbury is too itchy. I've got disposables from the NCT shop but they are useless. Cant remember what brand. But they soak through every feed.

Christmascheerinateacup · 18/12/2011 09:33

Lansinoh are great. I found others itchy

flamegirl77 · 18/12/2011 21:02

Thanks!

Definitely Tommee Tippee or Lansinoh. I found all the others I tried would leave fluff on my nips when I leaked, and were visible under clothes. I used TT ones until the local Asda seemed to stop stocking them and then went to Lansinoh and found them just as good. x
