Pulling my nipples off

Hi All, does anyone have any advice for a breastfeeding Mum whose 5 week old baby seems intent on pulling my nipples off? He feeds ok to start off with and then will suddenly pull his head back, with my nipple in it. Yow. Or he will squirm his whole body around, again with my nipple firmly grasped in his mouth whilst he is feeding which is also painful. What causes this and is there any way of discouraging him?

He also feeds really slowly - and I'm never sure when to remove him - he'd feed all day if I left him to it.

Any suggestions?

He may find there isn't enough milk left and he is frustrated. Why don't you unlatch jim then.... wind him and the either put him back on that side or offer next side.

Sounds to me like he's windy. Often when the milk lets down in the early weeks it's quite ferocious and they sometimes splutter and choke and pull off. My daughter did this. You could try expressing a little milk at the beginning of a feed and then latching him on.

Evita - hate to challenge you here but I think it's not a sign of a fast let down/windy baby..... if he feeds slowly it's not because he can't cope with a fast let down. If he wants to feed all day is another sign that it;s too quick.... maybe I am wrong.
